    .....Blonde jokes!
This is for a semi-lighthearted piece I'm writing.

Question, does anyone know the origin of blond jokes? Is is as simple as taking the piss out of people who were blond and dumb, or is there more to it?

Theory, assuming blond jokes came after WWII, is it possible this could have begun as an understandable backlash against the Nazi Aryan idealism?

Wasn't it after WWII that the west began to realise that Jesus probably had dark hair and brown skin, as opposed to the blond blue-eyed bloke most often depicted? Could this new awareness have also been helped by the collective subconscious anti-Aryan thinking that may have brought about blond jokes?

Your welcome to get as silly and lighthearted about this as you wish, but if there is anyone out there with any facts to either support or blow my theory away your thoughts would be most appreciated.

    Cheers.

Well, this should really belong in the Free Fire Zone as it has really not much relation to WW2, does it? ;)

AFAIK, the Dumb Blonde myth (why a myth? I'm married to a blonde, and at times...) comes from Hollywood, the blonde stars or starlets with nothing in the bridge but a lot on the upper deck, wink, wink, nudge, nudge!

For an early example see Singing in The Rain.

    Cheers,
    M!

Not really sure but looks like the roots of this are long way back in time..??

    http://www.blondes.net/blondesinhistory.htm

In Roman Times, women "pillaged the flaxen plaits of northern tribes and wore them as trophies."

Roman Women used to die their hair blonde with quicklime, wood ash, and old wine. They did this because they were jealous of the fair-haired German women brought back as captives by their husbands.

    Silly blondes?

The answer might be in Some like it hot (1959). Sugar (Marilyn Monroe) was dumber than Winnie Pooh…

Know exactly what you mean… but I'd just ask if Mexican born blonds with Syrio-Lebanese ancestry are different from other blonds…?

Ah but you see, being once a natural blond myself I deliberately put it in the wrong place to be ironic...
Ok, your right, I should have put it in the fire free zone and realised this shortly after posting it!! [IMG]
What's the difference between me and a dumb blond?
    I dye my hair.

Thanks for the link Kai-Petri, I didnt know about the Romans, most useful.

Friedrich, Winnie the Pooh is indeed blond, but wasn't Eeyore the most stupid? And he wasn't blond. :D

What about Collin Farrell's blond whig in Alexander? Does that count? [IMG]

Damned, but I have to admit that blond people may be silly, but they're the prettiest to my very particular eyes…
