Ha!!! Yeah, I know what you mean! Yeah, that would be nice, however unrealistic it may be. I had a girlfriend that saw enemy at the gates with me twice, but it was only becasue she thought jude law was hot.

Hello Smoke: The title in English is: The Bridge". This movie is German and was filmed in the 1950's. It is about 7 German Hitler Youth, who were detailed to defend a bridge 2 days before the war ended. They were supposed to defend it against an American Tank attack. Also, the person who wrote the movie, had indeed been in the HJ, and had been sent on such a detail in ww2. I had placed an order for it along with a DVD of Stalingrad--the DVD came in and so did a movie called The Bridge--buit wasnt the one I wanted--this one had Gerard Depardieu in it. :( A case of misordering. Anyway--the Stalingrad DVD is now my property. I like that movie very much as well.

    Hello PG, great avatar.
    Hello Doc.

I saw it in my High School German class, Junior year. Excellent film. We also watched Nosferatu, Europa Europa, Das Boot (parts), among others.

I had the good chance to get one of the most exceptional German instructors in the State of Indiana, in my opinion!

Concerning the movie "the Bridge". I just saw it the other night. Got a copy from a cool web site called Belle and Blade. They had a ton of stuff even if some of it was overpriced. The movie was pretty good. It was more of an insight into life among the German boys prior to being called up. The only action was at the end of the film. My next film to see is called "Come and See" about the war in the Soviet Union. It's supposed to be good.

Can you do me a favor and send me the URL to Belle and Blade--I lost it several months ago. There were other movies I also wanted to order--like the original vmake of Stalingrad--which was made in 1958 I think.

You have to see Klimov's "Come and See"!

It's really my No.1 anti-war movie ever, beating "Full Metal Jacket", "Pvt. Ryan" and even Kubricks "Paths of Glory".

Full of symbolism and you get a good idea what "scorched earth" and german "anti-Partisan" measures were about.

    Very touching.

I watched it recently. It is one of the best WW2 movies I have seen. Not the normal "americans coming and saving the day" type of movie. It is a realistic look at a bunch of german teens and their way into the war. Its story is at the end of the world war 2 and the germans are in need of new blood, as we see in the movie it is not going well for the axis, hence the end of the war.
It was good seeing a movie that also shows the other side of the story, yes the nazis were bad, but here we follow the innocent villagers and their way of defending their land. What do you think they know of the war, of the ways of Hitler and his commanders? Not much, this is a beautiful movie showing some very heroic kids doing what they think is the best. They have no political view other than what they are thought in school, they are not educated nor grown up. I catched myself crying at the end of the movie. While I wont tell how it ended I can only recomend it for you to see for yourselfes.
This is my first post on this site, I just now registered here, and I chose to write about this movie first. I feel good about it.

Die Brucke (The Bridge) is an excellent film, I haven't seen it for years but I would rank it right up there with Das Boote. I would find the subtitles a bit bothersome these days as my eyesight has really taken a bad turn in the last ten years, but I think my ruddimentary German could probably still keep up without the reading.

I enjoyed it when I watched it years ago, so my suggestion is "go for the gusto"!
