Hi all, I'm just getting into studying / learning about the war. I've found myself less ing towards the Pacific theater first. So my question is, does anyone know of any books or web sites that can explain what the different ship Classifications are and what makes them that classification?
I apologize if this was covered earlier and I just haven't found it.
    Thanks guys!!

Welcome Scotty, check out OpanaPointer for most things Navy in the Pacific. But! Be forewarned : once you click on ". The Public's Library and Digital Archive " we may not see you in a few years !

Naval History and Heritage Command, NHHC, has what you need. If not, give me a holler. I have an ∞ of sources.

It's almost overwhelming. There's more there than I thought possible. Were you part of putting it together?

Pat Clancy and I got it going. Our host here, Otto, is now the honcho there. I still piddle around with some files, mostly cleaning up rotten Japanese Monographs.

[BRAG]Hyperwar gets over a million hits a month during the school year. About half that in the summer.[/BRAG] Much thanks to UNC for housing us. They also host Project Guttenberg, so if you need a few hundred thousand books to read...

If its fact its not bragging...its letting people know....for me anyway. Im sure sometimes i come off bragging, but its from knowing that most people in the world just dont know something and i think they should.

I speak for Patrick when I talk about Hyperwar. And now for Otto as well. Not only do they do (or did) the hard work but they have (had) to put up with me. My wives will tell you that isn't always easy.
