Did anyone watch this Sunday Night on television? It was about Hitler's rise to power up til the time of his incarcaration to Landsburg. It kind of flew quickly through his childhood and WWI and then slowed down at the point where he joined the NSDAP and took over. There were some questionable events that it portrayed. What did you think about part one?
I agree as well as all the other things Hitler got credit for creating but it portrays him as plagarizing or stealing other people's ideas. It portrayed him as a coward in WWI which I question.
It was alright, but agree about the questionable moments in the movie.... On a somewhat related topic... June 7th (I think) there will be a special on about the Bismarck which I will be taping. It's on the history channel, but if anyone would like a copy please let me know and I'll see what I can do. Thanks, DUCE
As a television mini-series, I believe that the executives at CBS television deserve the credit due for attempting to portray Adolf Hitler's rise to power in post World War II Germany in a historical light. Yes, some of the events seemed to be questionable. For myself, I thought that Hitler's commentary to the Leutnant demanding the EK I, and why he was eligible due to his "defending your people when ever someone questions their loyalty", once the Leutnant begins to quibble about awarding him the EK I, was a bit much, at least for myself. But, on the whole, I thought that the first part of the mini series was over all, rather well done. Let's hope that tomorrow nights conclusion has been produced just as well. Bill
Rats--I didn't know something like that was on? Instead--I watched Rio Grande for the third time since I bought the DVD. Oh well--John Wayne was worth missing this and i'll watch for it to be played again sometime.
I would like a copy DUCE but if it's not possible that is understandable. I absolutley LOVED this program last night. But it did a lot of jumping around, from 1899 to 1907 to 1914 to 1918. At the scene where the Germans find out that Germany has surrendered( after Hitler was gassed) is when it slows down. In any event, it was a good show and I look forward to the end whic is on tommorrow at 9PM EST on CBS(Ch.4 in my area).
Well, I watched it. The entire two part mini-series. Fifty years of old Adolf's life rolled up in to four hours and leaving with him at the pinnacle of his power in 1935. Great exiting point for a possible sequel IF the ratings are worthy of it, don't you think? I must state, I thought the first two hours better than the second with more attention to realistic events of the time, even though Hollywood did have its time with Adolf, what with cookie spitting, spittle flailing actor Robert Carlisle doing his best to emmulate the former dictator of Germany. And even though it did seemed rushed, I thought the conclusion last night was even more so rushed, and had even less attention to historic detail. But knowing myself as I do, I still had to watch it. Watch anything to do with Germany and World War II and/or the events leading up to it. Now, I just wonder how "Saints Of The Past" is going to turn out? Bill
That is the phrase I would use to describe it. RUSHED. There were alot of questionable events that were mere guesswork and then some deviations from fact but had it been given proper attention, I think it would have been better. Not bad though. The only sore point I have is Peter O'Toole's role as Hindenburg. A better job could have been done with his costume. His head was way too small for the body they created. Ugh!
I looked all over the TV stations lastnight--and it wasn't on?? What station/network was it playing on?? I NEED to know so I can make a big complaint to the local station here in CC-land, if they excluded this programming for their normal junk. I almost got busted for speeding home lastnight--so I could see this program and for nothing I guess lastnight wasn't a total loss. I did get to see The Battle for the Atlantic--which had several RKTs interviewed in it. Also got to see Part 1 of a 2 part Justice League cartoon dealing with the allies losing the war because the D-Day landings were repulsed because the Germans had several hugh machines called: The War Wheel. This is something out of the Blackhawk Comic Books. Anyway, Part 2 is tonight. Oh and if your wondering--no--Hitler isn't in power--the German High Command put someother person in charge because he came up with wonder weapons that really worked. Also--all the German soldiers were portrayed as sort of Waffen SS guys. To top the evenings programes--I watched Leave it to Beaver.
Hey guys!!! I saw part 2 and it was awesome!!! Also saw Matrix Reloaded( pretty good). But back to Hitler. In essence it covered Hitler up tp when he became Fuehrer of Deutschland (Deutschland Uber Alles).
It was on CBS at 8pm (CST). Same time as the Battle of the Atlantic which I was watching (thank God for Picture-in-Picture).
Thanks for letting me know my friend--these jerkos here in Corpus did not play the mini serie--they played some stupid boring movie about someone wearing a set of Army trausers--who was hiding from the law. Boy am I POed They are getting a nice little chewout from me when I call tomorrow morning. At least I got to see part two of a three part series in the Justice League America TV cartoon series. The JLA is back in time to see what was changed about ww2 and to try to unchange it. Tonight is the final part. Guess what comic book fav's are in it: Jon Jonz The Martian Manhunter. Wonder Woman. Hawkwoman. Green Lantern--one I/ve never seen before. The Flash. Superman. Guseting in the 2nd episode were the Blackhawks and Sgt Rock and part of Easy Company. Sgt Rock. Bulldozer. Ice Cream Soldier. Little Sure Shot. Wildman. Normally I do not watch cartoons but--these were great and I think i'll be watching the Justice League America, when it's played in the future. All in all--not a total waste of lastnight. Oh and I FINALLY say the Wilhelm Gustloff special that I have missed several times that was played on the Discovery Channel.
Carl - I saw some where that the state of Texas pulled the program due to "concerns" that it might alienate certain segments the local populus due to its content. Give me a break. Are you Texans that sensitive? Bill
Oh course their that sensitive- they are in Texas for God's sake!!(AKA Death Row ) But in response to Carl, Green Latern was white in the original but now he's black so black people dont go screaming "Discrimination!!! " at the top of their lungs.
Whew!! I'm not the only one who watches Justice League then LOL. Speaking of Green Lantern, that's John Stewart, they've changed the Lantern from time to time in the comic books. For some reason he has that tough personality so he fast became my fav of the JLA. New season starts July 5th. Greg [ 23. May 2003, 07:42 AM: Message edited by: Greg A ]
Have heard of no such thing. I'm in Texas and it was shown in my area. As far a being sensitive, we aim to be friendly with all of you foreigners (non-Texans).
