"Lieutenant, weren't you directing traffic at the Or River Bridge? Does the road to Ambleve still lead to Malmedy?" - Lt. Weaver, played by James Macarthur, in the Battle of the Bulge. [ 17. August 2004, 01:12 AM: Message edited by: Deep Web Diver ]
Sherman tank crewman on the radio to H.Q "What? Are you sure? WATCHOUT...THE MPs ARE KRAUTS!" Oops--I forgot to mention that this was also a scene from "Battle of the Bulge." The scene just before the Sherman tank kills many of the German(MP) Commandos.
"We see our role as essentially defensive in nature. While our armies are advancing so fast and everyone's knocking themselves out to be heroes, we are holding ourselves in reserve in case the Krauts mount a counteroffensive which threatens Paris ... or maybe even New York. Then we can move in and stop them. But for 1.6 million dollars, we could become heroes for three days." - Oddball, Kelly's Heroes. [ 02. January 2004, 11:37 PM: Message edited by: Crapgame ]
Sergeant Guffey: Played by Telly Savalas in Battle of the Bulge. In the scene which shows them awakened in that barn by the oncoming German tanks. Sgt Guffey mocking what his "green" crewman had said earlier. "When are we going to see some Germans?"
"Always with the negative vibes Moriarity, always with the negative vibes". Kelly's Heroes, Eccentric tank commander Oddball (Donald Sutherland) to his Driver Moriarity (Captain Steubing from the Love Boat[I can't remember his name]) After Oddball buys the tank from the German: "Well, what do you think Moriarity?" Moriarity: "IT'S A PIECE OF JUNK, THE FEUL SYSTEM LEAKS ALL OVER THE PLACE!" Oddball: "Always with the negative vibes"
naturally Das Boot: "A toast to our wonderful...abstaining...womanless...Fuhrer, who rose gloriously from apprentice painter to become the world's greatest battle strategist. What? Isn't it true? He's the great naval expert who took it upon himself - in his wisdom - How's it go again? Who's been showing that English bedwetter, that cigar-chomping a**hole Churchill, where to go stick his cigars?" and this as well.. "He's so tense he could crack nuts with his a**."
the last scene in where eagles dare in the ju52...........colonel turner ...well i seem 2 have no cards left 2 play....do i ?..........smith (burton) no colonel you dont...........great !
Still on Where Eagles Dare: Col Turner: "Do I have an option?" Maj Smith: "If you want it?" After the Col jumps out the door: Lt Schaffer: "Next time, lets keep this an all British operation huh." Maj Smith: "I'll try Leftenant, i'll try."
where eagles dare is just a great film . the twist in the plot where it all comes out in the boardroom ......just brilliant . burton and eastwood if only they got 2gether again afterwards..............another great line was...........col turner....they were our best agents , top security........michael hordern...........security???? the words become a bloody joke!!!!!..........LOL......just great
Still on Where Eagles Dare. I liked the entire exchange between Maj von Hapen and the SS Oberfuhrer when the SS Oberfuhrer had just exited his office and saw Maj von Hapen going through papers lying on the Female Luftwaffe Leutnants desk. I thought that snoop job was interesting as I had never seen that scene before untill I bought the DVD.
I know this is definately way off ww2 topic but, I had to add this line as it is my absolut favorite. This is from the excellent movie: "The Adventures of Robin Hood" with Errol Flynn (Sir Robin of Loxley) Olivia DeHavilland (Lady Marion) Basil Rathbone (Sir Guy of Gisborne) Alan Hale Sr. (Little John) and so many other great actors. The line: "May I do all your requests with equal pleasure Sire!." Or something like that. There is no other Robin Hood movie that can come anywhere close in comparison to this movie. No better a person can compare to Errol Flynn as Robin Hood either. [ 08. November 2003, 10:54 AM: Message edited by: C.Evans ]
I like that scene too, Carl - two great 'camp' actors Anton Diffring ( Col. Kramer ) and Derren Nesbitt ( Major von Hapen ) hamming it up : 'Do you see anything that interests you, Herr Major ? '.... 'You are trying to discredit me with my superiors in Berlin ' ' If there is any discredit - you bring it on yourself ! ' Definitely one of the best don't-take-it-seriously films ever !
Hi Martin, it is a great scene. I wonder what ever happened to the actor Derren Nesbitt? Is he still acting? or is he even still living? Just curious because I thought he was a good actor. Yes--I always liked Anton Differing as well.
Derren Nesbitt - who was on British TV a lot in the late 60s/early '70s - has disappeared from view since the 80s. He will be 68 years old now. His career never recovered from a serious setback during his acrimonious, scandalous and highly-publicized divorce in 1973. I really treasure his 'von Hapen' performance - hilarious ! Anton Diffring passed away a few years ago - he was legendary for playing the 'sinister German officer'in many 50s/60s movies and the line : 'Ve haff vays of making you talk' fitted him like a glove !
anton diffring was also great in operation daybreak playin reinhard . very eerie looking bloke , those eyes . sort of bloke who would definatly slap you for splillin his pint !!!!!!!!
ThanXMartin. He is a good actor and I hope he does find a new avenue. Before this War Movies thing here took off, I had always thought that "Maj v. Hapen" was a German actor. Tell you what, he must have 4 of 5 pints of Scandinavian blood in his system.

In fact, I like best the drill sergeant quotes in Full Metal Jacket. Some of them are very useful. "You're so ugly you could be a modern art masterpiece." "Your ass looks like about a hundred and fifty pounds of chewed bubble gum, Pyle. Do you know that?" "There is no racial bigotry here! I do not look down on niggers, kikes, wops or greasers. Here you are all equally worthless!" Btw... what does "You talk the talk. Do you walk the walk?" mean? [ 11. December 2003, 12:31 PM: Message edited by: KnightMove ]
Basically that means, Put uo or shut up. Or if you rather, it means that if someone brags about doing some dangerous feat, (You talk the talk) and the person saying this is basically asking if that person will do as he says (do you walk the walk)
