The TV series called NOVA had a documentary about the five Japanese midget subs that were to attack at Pearl Harbor on Dec 7th. The four that everyone knew about were glossed over. But the fifth sub was discovered in three seperate pieces 3 nmiles outside of Pearl Harbor. The belief is that the sub did attack the West Virginia and Oklahoma, scoring 1 hit on each vessel and then travelling to the West Loch to scuttle the vessel. In the preparation for the invasion of Siapan in 1944 many LSTs were lost due to fire and ammunition explosions in the West Loch. It is believed by the program that the sub was taken with the rest of the scrap and dumped outside the harbor to quickly prepare the West Loch for future operations. They also were able to scientifically represent a photograph with computer enhancements of the fifth midget sub scoring a hit on the West Virginia. Amazing TV show.
I watched "The Odessa File" last night again. I watched it many years ago, back in the 70s when it first came out. It hasn't lost any of it's appeal I must say.
That's an excellent movie. Its also the only one I really like that has Jon Voight in it. I never tire watching this fine film. I especially love seeing that part of it was filmed in Heidelberg. This was about the 2nd or 3rd movie I saw when i got back from germany in 2000. Forgot to mention that I picked up three James Bond movies and a Western-just last night at Wal_mart. I don't remember the titles but one had Sean Connery, one had Timothy Dalton and the other had Pierce Brosnan. The Western was a James Stewart classic: Bend of the River.
Though the movie is about a bomb detonation squad in Iraq, I was so awestruck by its realism, attention to detail, the realistic scenes and the believable, creditable, authentic portayals of US soldiers I have to recommend THE HURT LOCKER to this group and forum. It was riveting, taught, tense and kept you enthralled throughout the movie, realistic to the end, never cornball or hollywoodish. It undoubtedly will win some academy awards, and might even win the "best picture" award. It is a great movie directed by Katheryn Bigelow who just happens to be the ex-wife of James Camerson, sure to be her competition for his direction and creation of Avatar. For the record, The Caine Mutiny and Battleground are two of my favorites.
Just got around to watching my free DVD from The Telegraph Newspaper...Jack the Ripper starring Michael Cain, two part TV drama. I put it as about early 1980's...not bad and a possible outcome but we will never know the real truth.
Watched Kelly's Heroe's yesterday. "Oddball" was a little over the top but the show was good for entertainment. Oh Yeah I think there was some guy as a Tiger tank commander who has a following here on the site, name of something Otto something?
Watched Grandma's Boy last night. First half was pretty funny, but the second half didn't finish as strong. For today, episodes 5-8 of Combat! season 1.
I watched The Eye of the Needle with Donald Sutherland and Kate Nelligan last night. I hadn't watched it in years. It's a pretty good WWII spy flick. Greg C.
Richard, you might hate this but, just picked up another Pierce Brosnan Bond film yesterday as well as The Bielski bros (Defiant) ;-))
I just finished watching "Good Eats" with Alton Brown. I didn't think a cracker from Georgia could whip up a pot of red beans and rice, but it sho-nuff looked good on TV! It made me hungry and I was cooking a pot of potato and leek soup.
Thats the one where they claim they know who it was exactly right, i remember one of the jack the ripper movies where they made such a statement about it in press releases and such.
I tried watching her show, but I can't get into it. My folks watch it though. I like "Drive-In's, Diners and Dives," and that cute Italian lady that always shows lots of cleavage....
Guy Fieri has two restaurants near me, and I have been to a couple of the places that he has visited on the show. The Italian chick is Giada D'laurentis (grand daughter to Dino) she has an enormous melon, my wife and I refer to her as "water head", however, she is hot! Jabba the Cook....I do not like her I find her aurely offensive with her nasally "Hey Y'all". Rachel Ray needs to shut the hell up. I like the chick that heats up canned food and always includes a cocktail with her meal. Anthony Bourdain is generally entertaining.
Heh heh, I watch her show as well as the triple "D", sometimes Man vs Food-mainly to see how much weight that guy gains after all the over-doing it in the eating dept. Ahhh, Giada De Laurentis-I love her-and her cooking. She can make a _urd look like a Candy bar is she wanted to ;-)) I also still like to watch Emeril's show too.
