http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3841424/ Land of Mine (2015) A young group of German POWs are made the enemy of a nation, where they are now forced to dig up 2 million land-mines with their bare hands.
I have been watching these films lately 1. Admiral Yamamoto (Rengô kantai shirei chôkan - Yamamoto Isoroku) (1968) - A pretty good movie but with pathetic models of Pearl Harbor 2. USS Indianapolis - Men of Courage (2016) - Without question the worst WWII film I have watched this year, and I have watched quite a few. 40M USD in production costs, where did that money go? 3. Anthropoid (2016) - Yet another film about the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich. This is probably the best of them all, and there are a few, but I would have preferred to dialogue in Czech with English subtitles. These are the films I know of that cover this event: 1943 – Hangmen Also Die 1943 – Hitler’s Madman 1946 - Muzi bez kridel 1965 - The Assassination (Atentat) 1967 – Heydrich in Prag 1971 – The Key 1975 – Operation: Daybreak 1975 – Sokolovo 1984 – Opus Pro Smrtihlava (documentary) 1985 - Hitlers SS: Portrait in Evil 2007 – Operation Silver A 2009 – Protektor 2011 – Lidice 2013 – Ceske’ stoleti (TV Series) 2016 – Anthropoid And upcoming, probably next year, HHhH.
Just watched Anthropoid last night. The acting was terrific. A bit slow at first but the assassination scene was well done and action sequence at the end just as intense. Not many far fetched movie antics. Seems like they worked to get the history correct. A couple misses but overall a good film. 3.5 stars for me
From the days of Television, there was a surprisingly Good Movie called Sole Survivor. Based on this completely amazing story.....https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Be_Good_(aircraft) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqxZoVLn6Tg I have always Liked/Respected Burt Lancaster. The Train was such a Great Film, and i am proud to own the DVD. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5wsjMSXolU I had never seen or heard of this one before. Brass Target Just watching it now on DVD. Well acted, and fun...Max von Sydow is great, and so is John Cassavetes. As with just about any Sophia Loren Movie, she is always the weak link....no need for her to be in it at all. Maybe they wanted her name, or somebody had to fulfill her contract agreement. Just good entertainment.....all fluff. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077272/
Just bought the whole series of " 6 million dollar man"....Lee majors was great at least back then... I also got the movie " the Triffids", just "the invisible man missing"...
Just started the documentary on Netflix, "What Our Father's Did". Focuses on the sons of Hans Frank and Otto Von Wachter. Well done so far.
Christ.....what a story THAT is. WWII was so far reaching, it is hard to overestimate its Importance/Effect on the world. Think of all the things..... Books Movies People Cars Planes Internet Forums etc etc ..... that would or would not be here if WWII had not taken place.
New ten part Netflix series "The Crown". Worth a look. Story of young Princess Elizabeth Windsor from 1947 through the next ten years of her life as she becomes Queen Elizabeth II. Written by Peter Morgan who wrote the Tony Blair trilogy (The Deal, The Queen and The Special Relationship). Watched "Judgement At Nurenberg" again. Spencer Tracy. What a great actor. Maximillian Schell chewing the scenery (for which he won an oscar). Saw "U.S.S. Indianapolis - Men Of Courage". Terrible. I only paid 2.88$ at a local second run theater and that was about all it was worth.
For a 'B' Zombie/Horror/Nazi movie.....Outpost was quite good. The acting was excellent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afESXwn3RlQ
Missouri Breaks 1976 Marlon Brando, Jack Nicholson, Frederic Forrest, Harry Dean Stanton, Randy Quaid, Kathleen Lloyd Longmire, Netflix Original 5 Seasons Emiliano Zapata from Kazan Apocalypse Now for the 50th time, "The horror." Dersu Uzala another of Kurosawa's masterpieces about life on the Siberian Frontier. Next up "The Crown"
Been watching Poldark. Excellent series. Last week while I was fighting the flu, I watched The Mortal Storm (1940) with Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan. A terrific WW2 film set in Germany just as Hitler becomes chancellor.
Watched Anthropoid today. Good movie. I don't watch many movies for a variety of reasons, but this one held my attention. Enough action to keep the story going, but not enough to make it a "shoot 'em up". More cerebral than that. I enjoyed it.
Love Derzu Uzala, one of Kurosawa's less well known masterpieces. Very beautiful use of locations. Nature photography.
There be Dragons. Spanish Civil war but also incl another plot that you see open at the end. Great movie. https://youtu.be/z17OEqbrOOQ
Was watching The Avengers Series 6, Ep. 23 Take Me To Your Leader, and Tara King sneaked onto an airfield past what looked suspiciously like a Heinkel III under a tarpaulin. Can't seem to pinpoint the location though.
New season of Oak Island...Maybe they are about to connect the dots (doubt it). Yes, there were visitors to Canada way back before we were a country. Yes there was activity on Oak Island. But to even suggest the Arc is located there... Remember the first season. They were making claims of demons and ghosts. Then there was the salted coin found in swamp...a skeleton, axe, and box seen by underwater camera, a satellite picture showing ruby and diamonds, etc. There is good history there, but a vast underground network of tunnels and treasure- meh.
