OK! It has to be Anthony Quinn! Great Actor, character! The 25th Hour The Guns of Navarone Lawrence of Arabia Lion of the Desert Back to Bataan Guadalcanal Diary Secret of Santa Vittoria
There are some great ones - no doubt. My favorites ... Gregory Peck - Guns of Navarone Donald Sutherland - who doesn't love Oddball? Jürgen Prochnow - Das Boot.
I was thinking of Donald Sutherland but besides, Kellys Heros and Dirty Dozen he isn't in any other war movies, that I know of anyway!
A recent one would definetly be Tom Sizemore. He's kind of becoming the next war actor icon, sort of.
I kinda like Richard Burton or Gregory Peck. Eastwood is an excellant cowboy and/or "Inspecter".IMO. What did Tom Sizemore star in OTF?
Check out my avatar! Telly Savales was a good war movie actor. Tough and gritty in Kelly's heroes. Creepy in The Dirty Dozen. "Scream, bitch!" Later
Wasnt Sizemore in Black Hawk Down too? I go with Eastwood, just for the fact that he is the only man who can use TWO MP40s and get away with it... (see Where Eagles Dare, corridor of death scene! )
True, but Eastwood had TWO MP40s... And he kills a whole Regiment in that corridor... But he is "a second rate punk"...
I go for the great Lee Marvin, an ex-marine, wounded at Saipan! The Big Red One, The Dirty Dozen, The Caine Mutiny, the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (off-topic but a hell of a movie ) He's buried in Arlington National Cemetery. - "Lee, I'll bet a lot of people are unaware that you were a Marine in the initial landing at Iwo Jima... and that during the course of that action you earned the Navy Cross and were severely wounded." - "Yeah, yeah... I got shot square in the ass and they gave me the Cross for securing a hot spot about halfway up Suribachi...
Richard Burton is great but I have to say David Niven or Errol Flyn. An alternative would be William Hartnell, who makes a fantastic job of being no nonsence sergeants (The Way Ahead is without a doubt one of the finest war movies ever).
What about Anthony Quayle? The Eagle Has Landed; Lawrence of Arabia; The Guns of Navarone; Battle of River Plate
I'd agree about Anthony Quayle as well. Always does the same kind of characters. Tom Sizemore played the sergeant major in "Saving Private Ryan", the mechanic sergeant in "Pearl Harbour" and a lieutenant colonel in "Black Hawk Down".
Anthony Quayle had great presence, especially in 'Ice Cold In Alex'. In an interview, I remember him saying that one of the most satisfying experiences in his acting career was to be approached by a South African fim critic after the movie premiered ; he was asked 'Where in South Africa were you born ?'
Is'nt David Nivan the "explosive expert" in Guns of Navarone and Force Ten /Navarone? Did'nt Anthony Quinn die recently?
