Looks most interesting, specially the cinematography.

If Amélie was a new and daring visual and artistic proposal, I think this film would explore even more new fields in a very interesting way. We can't miss it.

Besides, it was just about time to remember the Poilus as well.

    *bumped* for everyone.

Have just watched this film and let me tell you:

It includes the very best WWI battle scenes I've ever seen!!!

The art direction, set decoration, costume design, visual and sound effects, editing and sound editing and cinematography are SUPPERB.

You all MUST go watch it.

It is a bizarre film, however. It has too many battle scenes for a love story and too many love scenes for a war film.

The artillery bombardments are astonishing. It makes to want to take cover under your seat!

Still, it is Amélie in WWI. A different kind of film to see.

I saw "A Very Long Engagement" in theaters about 3 months ago and I was VERY impressed! It's alot like "Saving Private Ryan" (the realism of warfare and plot of looking for one person in the middle of a world war). I don't speak french, but i was perfectly able 2 understand it. Isn't Jodie Foster in it? I though I recognized her...

    Thanx for reminding, Friedrich!

I remember having read that the amount of money put into the battle scenes was quite incredible...

Yes, she is. And her French isn't bad at all. ;)

It indeed was. And it came from Warner Bros, I think over 80 million dollars ( ), and that is why it couldn't compete in the Academy Awards for best foreign language film, though it deserved to get several nominations, but we know the Academy sucks...

I mean, look at the set decoration and costumes!:

Just bought it on DVD and the battle scenes are great! The second DVD incl tells the story of making the movie and boy did they use time and money on those costumes!

One thing in the movie looked rather weird to me. If the guys are sent to the no-man´s land to die ( the judged ) why should they shout to the Germans that " They´re unarmed!"
    Does not compute...
