Just had a heads up from a mate that a new program is on UKTVHistory at 1600 & 2200 daily for the rest of the week called "Tank Overhaul". Appears to be runthroughs of restorations of Comet, Sherman, Panther & hellcat.
Todays is the IOW Comet which some of us will have seen roaring around Beltring. Tomorrow's is Jaques Littlefield's Panther, which should be fascinating as his restoration standards are astonishingly high.

Another mate has just phoned me and says the first program was very good.
    Listings.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

If you watch the comet one you will see a few RKKA re-enactors from my unit.

This was an interesting show! - but I wish they went into the restorations more and a little less about the background of the tank...

I agree that there was a fair amount of TV flim-flammery but it has been great to see at least a little coverage of the subject.
The restorations often drag on for years (particularly the German stuff, that Wheatcroft Panther looked well advanced but I suspect we won't see it at Beltring this year) so I assume the programme just had to grab what they could, when they could.
Having said that the look on the Veteran's face as he roared around in his own 'personal' fully restored Hellcat, the very same machine that he hadn't seen since 1945 was worth all the strange cut scenes and wierd audio for me.
    Moving stuff.
