Who commanded 101st in the field at the beginnng of the campaign? What was the company was he in called? What battles did that company fight in? What movie was made to honour the 101st?
I'm not sure what you are asking? Which campaign? The 101st was involved in more than one campaign, unless you are considering the liberation of NW Europe as one campaign. Which company, there were 36+ in the 101st There were several movies made of the 101st, Battleground being one that comes to mind.

You're obviously referring to the Normandy Campaign. You seem to have got yourself confused with the Divisional and the E Company commanders. Maj General Maxwell Taylor was CG 101st. Maj Richard Winters was CO of E Coy/2nd Bn/506th PIR. Steve W.

(REALLY GOOD MOVIE 5/5) I watched the movie and wondered.....What happend to all those actors? Then, bout' a week ago, FIVE of them were on an interview program. LOL. Creeper2ads You prepared wrong questions. 101st Airborne Division "Screaming Eagles" first commander was MG William C. Lee. And in the division (over 10 000 soldiers) were several regiments, like few parachute, few glider, engineer. One of the regiments was 506th which was split into 2 battalions, and each of this battalions was split into 9 companies, and one of these companies was company E. Where Maj. Richard Winters did led them during D-Day, and Market Garden, then he was promoted and took leading over whole 2nd battalion. This company was called Easy Company, but it's still not their unique name. Each companies in every battalion were called from the letters, like: A company = was called Able company D company = was called Dog company (if I'm not mistaking) E company = was called Easy company F company = was called Fox company and so on... And every company had at least few Easy Companies. So if You say Easy Company, only people who have seen "BoB" will know what You are talking about, cause their made big deal about it in the movie. What doesn't change the fact that 506th parachute infantry regiment was great regiment. And the whole 101st division, but 82nd also. And a lot of other divisions, regiments, soldiers even if no one ever made film about them. I like "Band of Brothers" very much too, but there is so many soldiers that deserve such movies. Cheers
I couldn't agree more. I tell everyone that I specifically study about the 101st Airborne, but when doing research about the 101st during World War II, I can't help but come across information about the 82nd Airborne, 327th Glider Infantry Regiment, British 1st Airborne Division, the pathfinders that landed before the airborne and I'm sure I'm missing some group. At any rate, my point being that there are so many groups of soldiers that could have stories written about them and movies made about them. Medics seem to be the most overlooked IMO and they were in just as much, if not more, danger than other troopers.
I agree with this 100%. That's why I prefer to base my knowledge about WW2 from books, movies are just nice addition. And I suggest that point of view to everybody, cause movies are not even 1% of great stories that happened during war. And books like "Battered Bastards of Bastogne" by George E. Koskimaki, or "The longest day" by Cornelius Ryan, are full of them. Even "Band of Brothers" book has much more stories than the movie, cause in the movie they had limited time. Like for instance, remember this scene in 6th episode "Bastogne", where in one of the first scenes, Richard Winters caught German trooper while shaving himself. They didn't say what the soldier was doing, he was just going to the toilet (and not pissing) next to their foxholes, cause he didn't know Americans where there funny situation. Cheers
band of brothers is a great tv series about the 101st, or easy company. winters was the commander of easy.

Eisenhower wrote a letter exhorting D-Day troops to victory, which was distributed to the 101st Airborne paratroops before they took off on June 5. Faces blackened, a group of men from the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne, prepare for takeoff. Paratroops of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment landed in or near Carentan, France, a small town just two miles from a German battery.
