Hello all I wonder if I can introduce you all to a website that has been set up for me ........ Alwyne Garling of Colchester wartime diary There is no financial interest involved - nothing is for sale. It is just me wanting to share the 6 years' worth of diary entries that a relative of my husband wrote whilst living in Lexden, Colchester, Essex, UK (54 miles north east of London) during WW2. It all came about when a small article appeared in my local newspaper about the diaries and diarist Alwyne Garling and a very kind person came forward and offered to put them on the internet for me. The pages on the site explain everything. The site only shows the entire diary from 1939 up to whatever day it is being viewed on, being 70 days on from the day it was written. We know how the war ended but Alwyne and others didn’t and, by reading day by day, the suspense grows …. will we be invaded? where will the next bomb fall? what is happening in the rest of the world? etc. Anyway, thank you ‘in anticipation’ that some of you will take a peek at the site – if you do, I hope you will enjoy it and keep returning to it – for the next day instalment. Alwyne writes about mundane ordinary life too like weather and health etc but documents, comprehensively, what is happening on the home and internationally fronts. Feedback gratefully received. Many thanks indeed. Heather
