Hello, I just joined because I like to talk about "what if" scenarios. IF you have a good "what if" scenario you want to talk about, start a thread and private message me so I can respond to it. I don't like the kind of "what if" scenarios that require major changes years in advance, such as "what if the Germans had launched operation Sea Lion", which is only feasible if they had begun building a real Navy ten or fifteen years prior to 1941, otherwise Operation Sea Lion can be renamed "Operation Royal Navy Target Practice". I am a veteran of the first gulf war, I was in the western Iraqi desert blowing up scud missile launchers. I wasn't in the military, I was a contractor working for one of those agencies with a three letter acronym. I volunteered for the mission because they needed someone who could parachute out of a plane and then assemble electronic and computer equipment in the field and then program the computers. During the mission, I was shot in the back and called in a missile strike on my position in order to save some other people. I figured if the Iraqis thought our camp was destroyed and we were all dead they would go somewhere else to play. Funny, getting shot saved my life because I fell down into a deep gulley, so when the explosions started they were up above me. The marines i was with then carried me 150 miles where a helicopter picked us up. My brother is in Saudi Arabia right now, he works for one of those agencies with a three letter acronym. I have two nephews in Iraq who are Army snipers. I also have two brothers-in-law who are Marines, also in Iraq, one is a Major, the other is a Captain. They ride around in tanks blowing stuff up. I'm jealous. I tried to volunteer to go to Afghanistan after 9/11 but I could not pass the physical. Curious
Welcome curious....quite a story! I am sure you will get your kicks in our What If section....Many dedicated members...
Very interesting story curious, look forward to hearing more of your time in Iraq. Welcome to the forum.
Semper Fi, Curious! My brother is Army Guard. He just got back from Baghdad a few weeks ago, and he’ll be going back over as some sort of instructor soon. I retired as a SSGT back in ’99. I like the fact that the first “Newbie” thread I see is from another Marine! Yeah, we’re funny like that! We had an injury while training at NTA in Oki. We had to carry him about a mile and a quarter with a field-expedient stretcher, to meet a vehicle (closer than the nearest helo-accessible area!). Never saw those guys cooperate that much! I think I’m gonna like it here!
