WOW. I have not heard of this story. Man, to think of being trapped for six years with the last two in total darkness. Unimaginable.

I had heard about it but had forgotten about it. That has to be so sad.

INSANE. I can't picture myself living in such a condition for so long.

This story reminds me of a certain Peter Sellers film which I have not seen but, if I recall some of the info about it, it seems as if Sellers and several soldiers get entombed in a cave or something.

That is a sad story (from up above)

Good memory. The movie was The Blockhouse (1973) and is based on the above story according to Wikipedia.

This reminds me of the story of this German who survived over a year in a Normandy bunker. I posted his story in an older threat.

While unfortunate, its definately one way of escaping the Soviet POW camps.

got it! It took a while becaus eit was form 2006. I copied the youtube link:

YouTube - Der Veteran Von Die Normandie

sorry guys it's in German and the subs are in Dutch, so if your German is rusted. Basically he said that on D-Day he was amazed when he so so many ships. He knew he could not win the war, especially because their better guns had been taken away and thye had not much left t defend themselves. Then his bunker got a direct hit and he got locked up until he was found in 1946. It's hard to believe, but why would someone lie about this? Hope this helps.

Thanks Skipper, I'll look at it when I get home, YouTube is blocked here.

Edit--Didn't fully read your post all the way through and missed that important language comment of yours. I'll have to take to take your word for it, Skip, he coulda been talking about peeling potatoes for all I know about either language.
