Hi, I wonder if anybody can help translate a few (only those 3 marked as I think I've worked out the remainder) abbreviations/acronyms taken from a relatives Service Record which I have recently received which reads: 03.04.41 To 2RC 04.04.41 From 2RC to Res 28.07.41 Res to 1 ACRC 09.08.41 To 7ITW 01.10.41 To 50 Group (Pool) 21.11.41 To Arnold - presumably 'Arnold Scheme'? Undated To Trenton 02.12.41 To 31PD 18.12.41 Ala. Inst. of Aero. (A) - any ideas? 17.03.42 To 31PD 21.02.42 To KTS Trenton (A) - presumably RCAF Trenton - but any idea what KTS means & why the '(A)'? 31.03.42 To 7 A.O.S. Any help would be much appreciated.
To Arnold: maybe Arnold Airforce Base? Ala. Inst. of Aero. (A): Alabama Institute of Aeronautics, Inc (A): maybe it indicates to 'Army'?
Hi RD3 Thanks very much for replying so promptly to my first ever ww2f post! I don't think 'A' = Army as he remained in the RAF until shot down & killed over Belgium in 1943. I've googled Alabama Insitute etc. but nothing is coming up. Arnold Air Force base I'll try next to see if it did any RAF training. Thanks again.
Being curious I "Googled" KTS Trenton and found this: ordered to report to KTS Trenton (Composite Training School). McMaster Alumni Association - Tew Good luck!
Hi Biak, Brilliant! I've been "binging" which came with Windows 7 & a new PC - now going back to "googling"! Thanks very much for your help.
Glad to help. Sometimes I get lucky! Keep us posted on your search and what you find. Sounds like an interesting history.
Hi RD3, I've actually been 'binging' rather than 'googling'. I found Alabama Institute of Aeronautics, Inc the second I googled. Thanks very much for your help with that. I've had a look at Arnold Air Force Base but it looks like it was 'all American'. THe 'Arnold Scheme' seems to fit with a trainee RAF pilot going over to Canada & the US for training and your Alabama Institute also fits with that. Thanks again for your help.
Hi Hercules ds690, Happy to help. I've done some further searching and found this: The 'Arnold Scheme' is probably right, see the following website: The Official Website of Those trainee pilots went overseas to learn to fly. Was really new to me. We learn every day. The 'Alabama Institute' can fit in the story to. According to the map on this page of the same website, training was given in Alabama: Bases You are right about the '(A)'. It doesn't mean 'Army'. Maybe it means 'Advanced'. When you notice that the '(A)' turns up after months of training, that can be a possibility. Just a thougt.
Hi RD3 Thanks very much for the above. Whilst your links don't show above they did on the email and I'll now follow up to try and find out some more about this 'scheme'. Your suggestion re '(A)' makes a good deal of sense so thanks also for that. Best Wishes
