I am raising a call...a call for a WWII tank model for a man who is not yet familiar with the ways of scenic modelling. Who is willing to answer this call?
just a suggestion for a good tank set or scenery model for someone who has never done this sort of thing.
There are various things that coulf be done with it. You could simply set it in a field or in the ruins of a town. What vehicles is it? Unit etc? I'll try and give you a few simple ideas. Really it is endless.
Just some suggestions as everybody has his own version of the battle in the end! I always like the Ardennes setting, and especially the King Tiger. http://www.oldgloryprints.com/Ardennes%20Offensive.htm Or maybe Shermans in the winter.. http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/35252king_tiger/diorama.jpg And as well the "well-known" battle of Prokhorovka is a great possibility..T-34´s against Tigers etc http://www.lastsquare.com/PrintCatalog/CranstonPix/dhm1022.jpg [ 28. Now, here I'm going to have some fun by doing an Erich-type-shootdown : where the **** in the Ardennes ( in December, no less ) could you go off-roading in your 70-ton King Tiger...?
Oy-vay, with a 70 ton King Tiger - anywhere you ****ing like! No.9 [ 30. October 2003, 08:26 PM: Message edited by: No.9 ]
Oh, I thought of answering with a femalish " I park my RED King Tiger wherever I want!" but that was a much better one, No 9!
Well one idea i'm thinking of doing is of a american airborne trooper armed with a bazooka hunting a german tank in the ardennes campaing. you could hide the figure in trees or have a 2 tier diorama with the para on the lower level with the germn crew unaware of his presence.
no no no...see...what I'm asking is where on earth you get the figures and everything in the scene? (such as...er...the red king tiger...haha)
Ike - its all about composition. You really have to plan what you want ot do. Make some sketches. they don't have to be works of art. You just play around with it. you can base your work on photos etc. once you've got a basic scene thought out pick what figures you are going to use and before you do any painting just play around with them on your base. you also have to remember to choose your size of base carefully. if you have one to big with only a few pieces it doesn't look right the same is true of the reverse things can look to clutered when you may not want it to be. so in the end it is all about planning. think about it then start playing with dimension of a base and hopefully everything will come together.
Thanks for all the suggestions, Mahross. What I still dont get is where you get the figures? at hobby lobby or something? any suggestions on how to make the foxholes?
Oh the figures. the best bet is to order them off the net. there are various manufacturers. One of the best is verlinden. here are some websites: http://www.verlinden-productions.com/index.html There is also VLS who stock warriors figures: http://www.modelmecca.com/ Not sure bout foxholes. my best suggestion is to but this book: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0890241953/qid=1067450883/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/104-2924118-2350363?v=glance&s=books Its got lots of great suggestions.
Awesome...thanks very very much. I'll see what I can do and keep everyone here posted. I'm having second thoughts about Ardennes. I'll probably do something with Operation Market Garden. The question is, how am I going to get/make a parachute on the ground? my head hurts
Eisenhower, Not sure of the manufacturer. Unfortuanatly it is a case of going through catalogue or website and trying to match the figure. It is hard to start when you not sure but eventually you will get the knack of remembering who produces something you want.
