Sorry. Too many variables. Each President had different styles of personality and ideas on how to deal with problems and situations.Quite a few did not have to deal with the same problems and situations during thier time in office. For example Washington, Lincoln and FDR had to deal with different types of war. There is also being connected to the people who served under them and advised them and what they did. That had an influence too on what they did. So what do you bean as "Best". What qualifications or actions determines who is "Best"

George Washington without a doubt. He didn't have the luxury of going to war with an abundance of wealth at his disposal, but look at what he has achieved. He fought for the freedom of his people, and this is what defines a war hero. It is a shame that his successors decided go a separate path by murdering the Indians and taking their land. He is a true American, unlike a certain other George W. whom I could name.

Why am I not surpised that a slam against Bush would show up?. This thread is about who is "Best" not who you consider to be bad. He isn't even on the list. And before anyone says anything Im NOT a Bush lover nor supporter. Im just tired of the Bashing.

Yeah, but you are a Bush sympathizer, because a real American never gets tired of bashing Bush. It is like a real American never gets tired of watching football.

    :D
Why not? You will never know when the CEO of an oil company might stop by and read this thread.

If you want to talk about the worst, start your own thread.

Washington. Because during his term, it was quite impossible for the "press" to scrounge around, dig up & trot out someone who said they had it better under a different President ... thereby proving beyond a shadow of a doubt, by eyewitness testimony ... that he was bad.

I also believe he didn't want the job :)confused:), but those who gave it to him wouldn't take no for an answer ?

He was smarter than I thought he was. :D

pants down Willy didn't get no votes? I guess well liked aint all what the press says it is.

I'd probably go for Lincoln, not least because he was a pragmatic realist which came in quite handy during the war.

George Washington "set the tone" for American Presidents. His stepping down from power not once but twice makes him unique in the history of military leaders who succeeded. He didn't win too many battles, but he won the war. Napoleon won most battles and lost the war, twice.

George Washington was almost the American Cincinatus, if you don't know whom I am referring to, look it up. Cincinatus didn't want the job as military leader (Washington really did want it to start with), but both men left the position of power as soon as they felt their "duty" was done.

All other American Presidents have to hold their candle up and see how they measure up to Washington, he was setting a standard. Lincoln comes in a close second, but since he was denied a second term America will never know exactly what could have been. His V.P. successor certainly was a flop. However, one must remember that Andrew Johnson was an uneducated Democrat from the border states, and put on the ballot as a sort of a "sop" to keep the border states on the side of the Republicans in the general election. No-one (from either party) expected him to become President, and his time in the seat was far from "pleasant"!

The office has been defined and re-defined since Washington, but T.R. perhaps changed it and projected power of the USA more than the office really had. There were some "goofs" in the office, but few total failures. A few of course, but the system of checks and balances kept the government itself above the "silliness" of inept holders of the oval office.

Too hard to stay on topic for ya huh? This is NOT a Bush Bashing thread. Some here have at least tried to answer the question. How about you? When someone posts an OPINION thread about who they think is "worse" then you answer might be valid . This is one of the reasons I hate threads like this.

He was on topic. He voted "other" then stated who he voted for.

GWB was not on the selection list.

George W Bush for me, anyone who can sell the idea that Osama Bin-Laden and Saddam Hussein were tied together and that Iraq had a massive WMD programme and so far none have ever been found wins me hands down.

    Go the big W

Sorry Jeff but when the words "Safe" and "Admired" are in caps it IMO indicates sarcasm.
