Now it may be because I am getting up there in years, but my brain tells me that there was a series of books published listing the air crashes of WWII. I was trying to convince someone that they existed, but couldn't come up with titles. Help.
I've seen a series that shows the crash sites of WWII for walking tourists. Is that the series you mean?
In the UK during the 1970s, David J Smith privately-produced a series of 'Crash Logs' for various types of aircraft ( eg 'Mosquito Crash Log', 'Lancaster Crash Log', Halifax Crash Log' etc ). A couple of the titles were republished by Midland Counties in 1980/81. These are now extremely rare and sought-after : they're an attempt to give the crash locations and circumstances of loss ( in the UK ) for every aircraft. They occasionally turn up on e-bay, Bookfinder or at Aerojumbles in the UK. If you see a copy - don't hesitate.......
