I have not been exposed to many British films so I only know a few.
My favorite ones are Michael Caine, David Niven, Sir Alec Guinness and Roger Moore. I especially like David Niven in his Walt Disney movie and his James Bond spoof.
I would put in Sean Connery but I read somewhere that he considers himself an independent Scot. Correct me please if I have the mistaken impression.

Most of my favorites have already been listed but the one that tops it for me is Peter O' Toole. Exceptional actor.

Good additions, and i'd forgotten about Patrick McGoohan, Richard Todd & Peter O'Toole. I'm not familiar with John Griegson? i'll have to do a search on him and see what he's done.

I originally thought of addding Sean Connery, Liam Neesen, Pierce Brosnan and some fo the others-but had opted for non Brit guys - but I do like those others pretty much. One important person I forgot to mention---Oliver Reed! He's always been one of my top five favorite British actors.

Come to think of it-and i'm surprised I forgot to mention them to begin with--Sir John Gielgud, James Mason and Lawrance Olivier. And an honorable mention-Paul Muni and Dirk Bogarde-though I know at least Bogarde isn't a Brit by birth.

A few others mentioned by others were Dirk Bogarde, Damian Lewis, Richard Todd and Peter O'Toole.

Another of my all time favorites, British or not, is John Rhys-Davies.

I'd forgotten anout J-R-Davies-i'v always liked him as well. More I haven't seen listed yet-Christopher Plummer, Christoper Lee, PETER CUSHING, and Percy Herbert.

Now whats missing are---THE WIMMIN ;-))

Since I have been watching the Robin Hood series w/ Richard Greene as the deposed loyal RH, i've been introduced to Bernadette O'Farrell-who plays Lady Marian Fitzwalter. I also have always liked Mary Ure.

PS, is Sean Bean a Brit? If or if not--I think he's great in all of the Sharpes-movies.

Sean Connery by a long shot. He was the best Bond, and I'll watch him in almost anything.

Alec Guinness - especially in Bridge on the River Kwai.

As for women, Glenda Jackson and Julie Christie (even though she was born in India). I know...I'm showing my age.

Danke Danke Mate. I also like Ioan Griffudth (SP?) though I know he aint from England. His Horatio Horblower movies are all excellent and destined to be classics. I like the gent who also played his Captain in several episodes. Can't recall his name.

Forgotten are: Edward Fox & Bernard Fox. No this one I can't remember his easily remembered name  but I always liked the Chap who played the creep in: Silence of the Lambs.

And whats that chaps name who played Hook, in: Zulu? I recall that he,sadly, had passed away with in the past few years.

I wonder though, whatever happened to Darrin Nesbit? The only movie I know I have seen him in-was Where Eagles Dare.

Sean Connery and Michael Caine have a near mystical status for my generation, they're like national uncles, not least because our uncles tried to be as cool as them.

One of my favourite actors for being impeccably English is Richard E Grant, he's outstanding at it, however he's actually African.

Bill Nighy is very good too, delightfully understated. most recently seen in Valkyrie, some might remember him from Hitler's S.S.: Portrait in Evil.
