The typical 'Tommy' helmet, worn by British soldiers since the dawn of time. Unstable, ugly, but it worked. Just. this is mine. nut now my problem is this one. this is the inside of the helmet I've bought: it doens't really resemble with this one does it? my question is my innnerwork is it from post-war service or from another country ? could anybody give me the costprice for an black innerwork? anyways thank you very much. greets Arne
Hi Arne, im not saying for sure it is but, the helmet liner is either German or similar to the German ones for their M-35's, M-40's and M-42's. I have only one example which is a DD M-35 Luftwaffe Helmet. The liner has 8 "fingers" and all the leather is a brown color and the helmet is a size 58.
strange then that a german innerwork would appaer in a tommy helmet. hmmm could be possible shoul look it up. this innerwork has got 5 "fingers". bad news is that the screw looks like new to me. So in fact I'm pretty sure the innerwork is post-war of recently been replaced. but thank you very much for you're reaction. edit: looked it up and found this:Do all original leather liners have only eight fingers? No. Most 60cm and 61cm liners have nine fingers. The reason being that they require more leather than a smaller sized liner. In some cases, size 58cm and 59cm liners can also possess nine finger leather liners. In these situations, the two rear fingers are sewn very close together or the ninth is virtually cut in half. Leather used in the assembly process was cut and fit to each of the liner bands. In some cases, leather intended for larger liner bands was cut down to fit smaller liner bands. source: German-Helmets.com
Could it be a Belgium post war liner? The 'Tommy' helmet was used by a number of countries after the war, including Belgium.
could it be? I did know that we used some helmets post-war. I will ask me grandfather he served in the '50 's in the army
