Hi Guys, I'm building a Brummbär model (scale 1/35) and it must look like brummbärs used in normandy. I know the brummbärs there had zimmerit on them, but I dont know wether or not they also had it on the lower hull. I mean the side of the hull with the running gear. Do you know, or do you think you know the answer? By the way I have the same question about a jagdpanzer 4 [ 22 June 2001: Message edited by: Wittmann ]
Wittmann : I cannot say for sure on the Brummbar's but the Jagdpanzer IV's, at least of the Pz. Jäger Abteilung 228 of the 116th Pz. Division did ! I have not seen fotos of Panzer Lehr's, 2nd Panzer Div., 9 Pz. Div. or the 12th SS so I cannot make a statement either. I am going to presume so. I do know that the long barrel jobs for the 12th SS were sent to them brand new, so it could of been factory applied and sent to them that way. E.
Wittmann : It is confirmed by photo evidence that 12th SS Pz JGr. Abt. did indeed have the Pz. JGr IV's in the simmerit coating, right up through the battles in Hungary in 1945... E.
Tanks Erich, But can you tell me something about the zimmerit pattern? was it vertical or horizontal? (I believe it were horizontal stripes but I don't know for the area between the "tyres", some sources say the pattern was vertical there.
Wittmann : I'll get back to you soon on that. I'll have to dig through the files for those pics and hopefully they will show the side profile views. Most of them are front views only. E.
Im almost positive that the whole Brummbar pattern was horizontal with no vertical lines. Check out sites like Track-Link and Missing Links to see what other modellers have done, but Im amost sure it was all horizontal.
