Hi, I got this Gas Mask a while ago, and was told it was WW2 era. It does look old and used (see pics). Anyone know what country it's from? I've taken pictures of all of the number markings. There is also a neck strap, and a big number 46 on the respirator cannister I didn't take a picture of.

It didn't cost me much so no worries if isn't ww2, I'll just sell it on!

    Thanks

From the shape and form and the great big green canister it's definitely Russian. However, I wouldn't say it is World War 2. I'd guess early 1960s - you can see lots of masks like that for sale at Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin. Probably the model GP-5 which came into production in the late 60s.

If you look at this WW2 shot of a Russian family wearing gas masks (http://warrelics.eu/forum/military_...sks-anyone-have-photos-soviet-gasmasks-5-.jpg), the filter is the wrong type to be WW2.

I don't think he will see this, since has hasn't been active on the forums for about a year, but good to have it identified.
