Can you tell me about this Japanese currency?

I have peice of, what I believe to be Japanese currency that I got from my Grandfather. It's a curious peice though, being that it has both Japanese and English characters on it. It has as I mentioned, Japanese symbols on both sides, but on one side in English it says; Military Currency and Ten Sen. One the other it says; Issued Pursuant to Military Proclamation. Does anyone know what this is, or how I might find out?

Just a guess here, but it sound to me like post-war occupation currency.

Thats what i gathered from the peice as well. Does anyone have any further details? Who exactly was it issued to? How much currency was issued? Etc...
