Military Legacies: Plains Indians in Battle with the Pueblo Indians
Spanish Conquistadors in the era of Exploration and Conquest
Westward expansion from the East: Forts along the Santa Fe Trail
    Exploration expeditions---Battles with the Indians
    Lincoln County Wars
Life under Kearny Code...age of the gunfighters
Training of the Rough Riders...Spanish American War
The Civil War, Battle with Texans, Manifest Destiny
Pacification (Plains Indians fought incredibly long with many foes) within New Mexico Territory

All this just to get to the subject of this post which is to celebrate that New Mexico on this day 100 years ago was accepted into the Union of States as the 47th state. Some of the things mentioned above started happening in the 1500's yet our statehood was delayed until 1912. Yet we have soldiers that served with the Rough Riders, The Civil War, The raids by Pancho Villa, We had many active forts, our armies were often supplied by the Pueblos and Plains groups with scouts and soldiers yet we were of the last to become a state.

We then continued the military legacy by contributing troops for WWI, WWII and all other military actions since, and were the secure area for the eventual building of the Atomic bomb and other modern weapons under development or current production. I just hoped to mark the occasion of why it is often on our minds as New Mexico people that we are a very young state with a very long military legacy and I thank you if you celebrate this a little bit with me by just reading this. Thank you very much for the attention.:)

Shshshshshhhhhhhhh Poppy......survival here is perhaps a challenge and an art.....I have a bit of mixed lineage....as many here do....and there has been conflict upon conflict here.....Conquistadors were just the beginning of it.......because of that conquistador statues here are often missing limbs or legs.....revenge having been had from those generations later that get even with the statue when their ancestors were punished by those early conquistadors.....and I am of both sides of the conflict to some degree. So it was a bit refreshing to see the video with whole bodies on the horses for a change in your neck of the woods as such things here are often amputees on horseback here. This state had a most bloody background from which to build from.....which is one of the reasons I lay a lot of hope in our U.S. Constitution and am believing a lot of New Mexicans feel likewise hoping to see a way to a better future for all the cultural diversity of this state. A bloody background does not always a better future make......but I see a lot of conflict resolution that has taken place over the years but we have a long way to go. Perhaps we need to be understood for this and can find ways to come together for a better tomorrow. Thank you Alberta for the well wishing! (as Vic cautiously glances to the west at Arizona lawmen looking for immigrants that he resembles....and to the east at the Texans whom he hopes to keep as newly made friends despite the past).
