    Darrell E. Allensworth
    85, of Uhrichsville, Ohio passed away at his home while surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born Jan. 24, 1925 in Dennison, Ohio, he was a son of the late William Leroy "Roy" Allensworth and Louise Marie (Hoffmann) Allensworth Nance. Darrell proudly served his country in the Army during World War II, earning a Purple Heart for the injuries he received during the Battle of Huertgen Forest and the EAME Theater Service Medal with two bronze stars for valorous service. He continued in the fellowship of his comrades in arms as a member of the American Legion's Twin City Post.
    On Nov. 2, 1946, Darrell married the former Sarah E. Roahrig with whom he enjoyed over 64 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Darrell L. Allensworth of Akron and Gary L. Allensworth of Rootstown; a daughter, Sally O'Donnell and her husband, Jim, of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Darrell J. Allensworth of Ravenna, Christopher J. Allensworth of Detroit, Jim B. O'Donnell of Dover, and Heather L. O'Donnell of Westlake; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Katherine Clark, Virginia Porter, Jo Ann Garabrandt, Phyllis Heil, Joyce and Glenn Clough, Vonnie and John Cox, and Howard Clum; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Clum; a brother, Jerry Nance; and brothers-in-law, Raymond, Blaine, and Robert Roahrig.
    Darrell retired from Alsco in 1991 after over thirty years of employment. He had previously worked in the shops for Pennsylvania Railroad, as well as for Republic Steel. He was a longtime member of Dennison Presbyterian Church where he had served on the Board of Trustees and as an Elder.
    Services for Darrell, officiated by Rev. Carolyn Behrendt, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 19, in the Dennison Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville's Union Cemetery with a military committal service. Family and friends are invited to call at the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Those wishing to honor Darrell's memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Community Hospice and Dennison Presbyterian Church.
