    APRIL 6, 1924-FEB. 13, 2009


    MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Derwood Guy Slonaker, 84, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.


    Born April 6, 1924, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Guy Edwin and Daisy E. Schad Slonaker.


    He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl J. Ward Slonaker.


    He was a veteran of War World II, serving in the U.S. Army.


    He was employed for more than 30 years by the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va., retiring as chief of finance.


    He was an airplane pilot, antique car collector and restorer, gentleman farmer and equestrian.


    He is survived by two sons, Derek G. Slonaker and Jody W. Slonaker, both of Martinsburg; one sister, Amelia Snyder of Martinsburg; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; nieces; and nephews.


    Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg. Chaplain Steve Jenks will officiate. Military graveside services will be in Rosedale Cemetery.


    The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
