Dr Joseph Goebbels and his wife Magda poisoned their six children on May 1st, 1945 exactly one day after the death of Hitler. After being given a sedative, each child had a cyanide ampule crushed in their mouth. The loving parents committed suicide later that evening.

You notice how their mother killed them? And they say females are more loving............

 

It’s always very sad to see the death photos of them. I have never seen the seperate living photos before though. They were all beautiful children. And might I add, they definitely took more after their mother than their little weasel father.

 

I agree to both of you. In the moive "Der untergang" Or English "Downfall" they show killing the children, and themselves. Great film Check that out

Downfall was a brilliantly crafted film. Showed what it was really like inside the Fuhrerbunker. I highly recommend it

 

They say it took the guy who played Hitler 3 months to fully be like him in his part.

 

Very beautiful children. I can't believe that they came from Gobbels, the poison dwarf. What a heinous crime, murdering children like that (much less their own!) The power of National Socialism...many committed suicide rather than waiting around to find out what postwar Germany would've been like. It shows the degree of which people lost hope.

 

Interesting how all their names began with "H"..... Any guesses?

 

Just an opinion, but seeing how the Goebbels named the first names of these children after Hitler, I'm curious if all six children were born for propaganda purposes. There are more than a few accounts of how Joseph and Helga had an arranged marriage, how Helga longed to be around Hitler, and how Joseph was a womanizer. Also, in many of the photos prior to their deaths....Joseph looks either posed or has a look of "lets get this overwith" in the picture. This type of thinking would also explain the unthinkable....perhaps these children were not as loved as most normal people would consider.

And yes, the number of suicides during the final days of the Third Reich clearly indicates that even these people were corrupt thugs and sadists. They also knew full well that there actions would result in prison and death sentences.

 

These children were used by their father and mother as appendages and endorsements to their own public careers. Because Hitler had no family as such to put before the cameras, the Goebbels family took on the role of the Third Reich's 'First Family Ideal'. They were the subject of many a newsreel, and had they lived postwar they would have spent most of their lives dodging people with an axe to grind or fending off old Nazi's.

With both Magda and joeseph swearing undying loyalty to the regime, it was a natural next step for fanatics like them to make by poisoning their own children. There is no guarantee that either their best interests or their welfare would have been properly served by the Russians. The Russians may well have made good use of them for propaganda or otherwise. Magda and Joeseph were not going to have that. So, from the moment those children were first put in front of a camera, their fates were sealed. They lived or died with the fortunes of the Reich.

 

If this were entirely the case, Niklas Frank, Martin Bormann Jr., Robert von Schirach, Gudrun Himmler, Monika Hertwig, (Nee Goeth), etc. etc. etc. (Maybe even Edda Goering) would also likely not have survived.

It is possible for the darkest criminal to love their children, and not really possible to second-guess how they will treat them in relation to an ideological/political framework, or major events closing in on them.
Filicide is too complex to sum up so clearly I feel. Eg. Himmler was one of the worst in ideology, but notoriously fastidious/queasy when it came to the 'sharp end' of his plans.

To accept some of the later part of your premise, yes, the curse for Goebbels's children was likely not only having that father, but being in that bunker, at that time, but that situation can't necessarily be extended to include the other ideologues. Indeed, the evidence proves otherwise.

Fanatics move their family entire into the firing line, rather than seeing to their safety,( as with the rest of the hierarchy children you mentioned.)

So we can classify Boorman, Schirach, Frank, Hertwig et. al. as less than fanatical about their loyalty to the regime. Even the Goerings.

 

If the children were indeed Josef's-it's entirely possible that given the ideological fanaticism of the Goebbels that they had Magda mate-or artificially inseminate- with some NAZI superman (or men) so as to present Der Fuhrer with some more perfect specimens.

It could be a loving act if they were facing some truly horrible fate, but just to "spare" them having to live in a world without Hitler........
