I am, for one, a great fan of electronic music. Favorite artists include Kraftwerk, Röyksopp, Juno Reactor (thanks Roel), the Prodigy, VAC, the Knife, Paul Oakenfold, Sebastian Ingrosse and various game soundtracks (Dune 1992, for example).

    Downloads

http://www.bevlarmusic.com/ Free electronic/house music (latter does not appeal to me)

http://olivier.dri.free.fr/dunedown.php3 The soundtrack to the 1992 Dune computer game, .zip files. I would reccomend the "Spice Opera" and "Cryogenization"

Any other fans with reccomendations? Let's banter!

    :D

If done well, electronic music is very good.

The Prodigy, for example, I like.

If done badly, it is irritating noise.

But then, the same can be said about any form of music, so hey. ;)

    You're welcome, Panzerman!

Electronic music is particularly good as a background - I first encountered Juno Reactor as the man behind some movie music for Once Upon A Time In Mexico and the Matrix sequels (the only thing they have going for them). Movies like Boondock Saints and Lola Rennt also have very good, driving electronic background music.

    Electronica is king.

Of the groups not mentioned above can be mentioned Frontline Assembly, Rotterdam Terror Corps, Technohead, Greater Than One, Marusha and more.

I'll second that me262. One of the longest lived and in at the beginning groups. They also did some great movie soundtracks for Friedkin e.g. Wages of Fear and Thief. My all time favourite LP of theirs is Stratosfear - brings back memories of nicking my ma's moped and scooting off into Edinburgh with my pal on pillion to catch a concert of theirs.

electronica , 90% of the time , is only good for tv or movies. I think its partly responsible for the decline in music.

Tangerine Dream, now there's a name to conjure with.

Cyclone & Force Majeure were favourites of mine.

Has anyone heard/got any of their early stuff? Pre Phaedra.

What i mean is ; electronics were incorperated into music, and when electronic music machines(synthesisers) became eaiser and easier to easier to use , any idiot could make a song, and because of that , u have idiots getting success, while real musicians using instruments which take talent to play get tosed aside.

Woot someone else listens to VAC besides me :)

As electronic music are we considering EMB (elctronic body music)?
If so Absurd minds, apoptygma berzerk, assemblage 23, vnv nation, bruderschaft.

CSP most of those bands are not very succesful in tha traditional sense. Just look at their record labels most of them are just a couple people running it out fo their house they arent rich bastards like U2.

Well, you know what I mean. Turn into your music video station and then listen to the music. See how much they seem to depend on the synth's.

Those people have their voices alterned by computer, lip syncing idiots who cant evan play an insurment evan a synth for that matter  Why are they so popular? because kids listen to what they are told to listen to they like what they are told to like esspecially if it is crap.

Synth is anything that makes synthesized sound. All u have to do composition wise is press a few buttons in quick succession and u got the music to your song.

I don't care about the "general decline in music", and that is a subjective opinion, and even if we could establish that it was happening - why would I care? Nobody is forcing me to listen to something I don't like, except on social occasions, and then I can just switch songs.

There is such a wealth of music out there, anybody can find stuff that they like.

Pop music is crap too you know most those people dont play their instruments, let alone write their own lyrics, co-writting might jsut mean adding 1 or 2 words.
