Hope everyone is well and sorry not posting - VERY busy with work and kids! I am curious - operation Bagration really interests me as was probably the biggest German defeat of WWII - However, there are not much english books on topic. I have read a few but there is not much - even in general Eastern front books tends to be footnote compared to Dnieper, Kursk, Moscow, Stalingrad, Crimea etc. Anyone have suggestions (for someone with no military background - so not overly technically RE military tactics ie Glantz is great historian but too technical for me ) on good english books either about Bagration or East front books which specifically discuss it in advance? Thanks in advance
Much as I respect David Glantz his books are quite dense. Hitler's Greatest Defeat: The Collapse of Army Group Centre, June 1944 Hardcover – 1 Jan 2000 by Paul Adair This is a little mor readable There is an account by a German officer too. Ivan's war has a section on the campaign. John Ericksson's Road to Berlin includes sections on Bagration. This tells the story of the soviet leadership by someone who met many of the commanders. Paul Carell's Scorched Earth has some German stories - with the limitation that it is written by one of Goebbels' staff
And of course the inevitable Osprey, though I can't say anything about the quality of the Bagration one it's by Zaloga so shouldn't be one of the really bad ones. Can't post links but just google osprey bagration.
