Hey, I saw Fahrenheit 9/11 a little while ago and I was surprised at how much stuff there was in it that I didn't know before. All in all, I liked it. I wanted to know what you guys thought about it.

Is this "Moore guy" saying Bush could have prevented those planes from smashing into buildings?? Shoot them down?? Are the proceeds of this movie going to a worthy cause or lineing Moore's pockets? [IMG]

So much of that movie is hogwash - simple cherry picked facts to make out some propaganda story. Moore does exactly what he accuses the bush administration - picking the facts you like - and disregarding the contradictory truths. It's a real shame if people think this is a "documentary" - it borders on the verge of fantasy in some respects.. Unfortunately, I think there are too many out there that take whatever comes on the screen as doctrine. but I have to admit - I laughed a lot - there are some funny things Bush says that crack me up. Like "kill all terrorits ... now watch this drive."

Just watched "Bowling for Columbine" this weekend and independently of your ideological tendencies, it indeed deserved an Oscar for best documentary, not like Mr. Heston —who by the way, in this film showed how a senile fascist he is— whose performance in "Ben-Hur" is worse than awful…

You can't say it's crap because as a documentary it is amazingly well-done, in the same way "The Triumph of the Will" is a masterpiece and a work of art.

And I suppose "Fahrenheit 9/11" won at Cannes because it's also a real piece of art of a documentary.

Can't wait longer to watch it.

How can anyone take an illiterate Texan who can't even speak correctly, who almost killed himself with a Pretzel and who talks about 'evil' and 'bad guys' as scapegoats for everything seriously?

No, it won the award because it pushed the agenda of the Bed-wetting Pinko-socialist french government.

(No, that term is not meant as an insult to anyone on this board, especially my friends, the term 'Bed Wetting....' is one i use often ;) )

Don't get me wrong, I'm no Bush supporter - but I like facts - supported by evidence (where are the WMDs, right?) Opinions with propoganda is not a documentary. Documentaries are meant to be objective, fact based accounts. Not an adventure in cherry picking. Same goes for Bowling - all those figures Moore splashes on the screen are not scientific - there is no scientific basis for any of his conclusions. 9/11 clearly has a spin - but is presented as fact. The entire premise of the film is flawed - thanks to Clarke. Granted - some of the stuff makes you think - but that's not how it's presented - it's all one sided, partial truths. That makes good fiction - not a good documentary.

Charlton Heston quote: "the white fathers that founded this nation". Why is it that the US is a more violent society? "Because is has a greater mixed ethnicity" Not exact quotes, but the key words are in place.

Even worse an actor than Reagan and even more right-winged! [IMG] Very disgusting…

I definately do not like Bush, but I do think the film focussed too much on trying to blame Bush for everything. It was still pretty funny though.

"Damn you all to helllllllll!!" one of the best movie lines. Funny friedrich suggests that Heston is right-winged racist old bastard - but that movie - Planet of the Apes - has a profound anti-war and anti-racism message. Also Friedrich - I think Heston was suffering from senial dimentia when Moore interviewed him, don't hold it against him if he says a few crazy things.

By the way - why the US is more violent? I watched Bowling and, frankly, there's no conclusion. Moore explains that it's not guns (Canada has more guns than people) - so what is it?

I am aware of that. Everyone is. Putting emphasis on it is not necessary…

Well, his Oscar-winning performance in "Ben-Hur" is awful… and if he looks Jewish then I look Chinese!

Paranoia. I bet if the Mexicans could have many weapons it would be a very, very violent country… however, people's right to be paranoid around here…

Not necessarily. Think of the difference between a written essay and an article, one expresses opinions backed with some facts and sources and the article must be facts presented as they 'were', or as the writer, based on many sources and facts, think they were.

A documentary can be both: an essay and an article on film.

What the heck is that supposed to mean - he doesn't "look" Jewish-ish? Jews in the time of Moses looked like everyone else - and they still do!

Paranoia - nope Moore's wrong on that one - how does paranoia explain killing babies, killing husbands and wives, etc. - it doesn't. I don't think that has anything to do with how violent the US is - it has to do with ignorance - plain and simple - go and see how retarded kids in the US are and compare education standards in industrialized nations v. the US - you'll see that the US lags far behind in basics. Just a bunch of dumb @$$ americans. Throw that in with crazed religious extremists and radical liberals and you get one hell of a mess.
Hell, maybe I should gain some weight - stop showering and grow a beard and make a "documentary" - maybe Miramax will line my pockets too? [IMG] But that's just my opinion - Moore would say I'm wrong.

Blue-eyed Jews in Palestine in the I Century A.D. is idiotic…

Jews in the XXI are no longer completely semites nor they look or act alike. Some are more Germanic or Slav in race than I am.

I'll grant you that. Fortunately this forums is not an example of that, but there are others in which you can clearly see how bad is the average education system over there… Hey! Idolising and making a hero of a president who proudly showed his ignorance and lack of class is a very good sign that something's wrong there!

And I won't post more on this thread because being the 'liberal' —God, how I hate that word when used in the American way [another sign about bad education]— 'leftie' Bush-hater I am, we won't get anywhere!

First off none of his work qualifies as a documentary because documentaries are supposed to contain facts, if you look at some of the editing in BFC you will notice that he has taken clips of different speeches to make Heston appear insensative.

As for Cannes, well it is nothing to do with the French government. Frankly I am fed up with people slagging off the French just because they disagreed with the US. I thought WW2 was fought to make them free, not force them to follow the US in everything it was to do later on.

But back to Moore, some of what he says is pretty damning, cherry picked facts are still facts.

Then again as someone said, 'Europeans dislike American as fat, rich and arrogant, why then have we found the fattest, richest and most arrogant American we could find and taken him to our hearts?'
