OK, we've talked about it. Now it is time to put up or shut up! No tank destroyers either! Just tanks! I'll try to list as many as possible, but really I see only about 3 that will be on top! Good luck!

    Offensive or defensive roles ?

I beleive that the Königstiger was better suited to a mobil defence than offense as proved by SS Schwere Panzer Abteilung 503 proved in the Pommern/Danzig and Berlin areas, scoring over 450 Soviet tanks with Hermann von Salza at it's side.

Have to go with the Tiger I here. Battlefield performance, reputation...
There were better tanks, but the Tiger wins my vote for "favorite" with no competition.

If we were going for best tank, Panther G would be my pick...but my favorite is without a doubt the King Tiger. I cant help but love it.

I went with the King Tiger too. My next choices would have been the Panther and then the Tiger 1.

Tiger I here. The Tiger II was great but its size cause many transportation and logistical problems that the disadvantages outweighs the advantages. Tiger I.

I'm with the Tiger II crew too. [IMG] Although I love the Tiger I, the Konigstiger with her sloped armour and that long barrel just has that "presence" about her that I love.

I just had to go with the IS-2. It has such a no-nonsense look with the bloody huge gun, and a combat reputation to match.

Really, it was a tie between the IS-2 and Tiger I. But since the various Tiger incarnations really are the Britny Spears of WWII buffs, and I can't stand primadonnas, I had to go with the IS...

Tiger II. Indeed it probably was better for defence, as they did some huge numbers of kills in 1945 in the eastern front. But it has the "killer look" I like!

Tiger II was a a powerful tank, but I had to go with the Tiger I. Most feared tank of the war, and remember, the greatest tank ace in History was in the Tiger I, Micheal Wittmann! :D

Its battlefield reputation was legandary, and its kill ratio was extrodinary! Outnumbered on every battlefield, but yet still able to turn a battle by its meir presence!
This tank symbolized the new German army and Germany itself. In that is was big and powerful!

Otto Carius once said, "I would not want to go into battle in any other tank than the Tiger."

That pretty much sums it up for me!

It was a very hard decision indeed because there were many, many good tanks in there. The Tiger I and II really jumped into my mind but I had to choose the T-34/85 because of its excellent speed, armour, gun, mobility, reliablility and easy production. It has EVERYTHING that a tank must have. Maybe its record performance is not as good as the King Tiger, but it has more technical advanyages than them. Bloody Russians... :( :D

I think that the Panther and the Tiger were both very good. Only the T34 was better, the other Allied tanks were very bad: Sherman, Churchill, Matilda.

But what is the difference between Tiger I and Tiger II????

Although Tiger II can be described as an 'evolution' of the Tiger I heavy tank concept, the two tanks were actually quite different.

Perhaps the easiest way to answer your question is : -

    http://www.achtungpanzer.com/profiles.htm

and scroll down to the two types.

Friedrich, sir, a question- I'd agree that the T-34/85 was probably the "best" tank of WW2...

But which one is your favorite ?
    Still going with the 85?

Reason I ask- while undoubtedly being one of, if not the best tanks, the T-34/85 dosen't seem to me to be all that interesting. A workhorse with all the requiremtns of a good tank for sure; but not as much reputation as the Tigers, not as technically advanced as the Panther...

Albert- definetely check the link Martin posted. The Tiger I and Tiger II were very different. While both being Tigers, there is really very little similarity between the two, besides being really big and mean!

Or 'Honey' as British tank crews called it unofficially!

Just like a woman, a Honey can move fast and slap you a good one before you know what hit you, but hit her back and she'll cry!

Bloody hell! It was favourite and I voted for the best...

You are right Crazy. The T-34 is not so charming. My favourite is definately the PzKmpf IV or II.

    My mistake... :D
