I searched for this topic and didn't see it, so I wanted to pass it along for those who don't know about it. In the Golden Gate National Recreation Area is a restored World War II-vintage Coastal Artillery base called Fort Cronkhite. It has some renovated era barracks buildings and plenty of historical references. I have collected some cool documents that have a lot of historical details based on the NPS remodeling efforts. Seeing the images brought back memories of my own basic training experience nearly 30 years ago. I have links and wrote about it all here, if you are interested:

Especially take a look at the Furnishing Report, as it has 158 pages of details about barracks life and the gear in service at that time. There are lots of line drawings and photos, and a great bibliography.
