    NOV. 25, 1924-FEB. 9, 2009

    SMITHSBURG - George Kendle Slayman Sr., 84, of 11813 Rainbow Avenue, died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at Washington County Hospital.


    Born Nov. 25, 1924, in Washington County, he was the son of the late Guy and Nannie Findlay Kendle Slayman.


    He was employed by M.P. Moller for 46 years, retiring in 1988.


    He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.


    He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and was a member of the Church Council for 14 years.


    He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Slayman; one daughter, Kimberly Sue Slayman of Waynesboro, Pa.; two sons, George K. Slayman Jr. of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Michael S. Slayman of Smithsburg; three sisters, Etta Bartles, Elizabeth Clowdis and Nancy Moats, all of Hagerstown; and two brothers, John Slayman and Elvin Slayman, both of Hagerstown.


    He was preceded in death by five brothers, Guy Slayman, Edward Slayman, William Slayman, Robert Slayman and Eugene Slayman.

    Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 601 Washington Ave., Hagerstown. The Rev. Quentin J. Fleming will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.


    The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
