Hi all. PompeyMeowth here. I have an interest in 20thC history, WW2, especially.
I'm also a keen football and cricket fan, supporting, yes you've got it, Pompey! and Sussex at cricket (Native of Chichester).

I'm also a moderator, on not606, a sports forum, which has flourished since the demise of BBC606.

Welcome, newcomer! (from a wrinkly old Yank who knows next to nothing about Cricket, except that the games last too long and they don't serve hotdogs to the crowd. LOL)

..there are of course many different formats in world cricket nowadays....you guys will be playing it too one day.. the Canadians had a team at the recent World Cup! The 'serious' forms of the game of cricket are followed with as much passion as religion in certain parts of the world and given that getting on for a billion Indians worship the game, it is one of the most popular sports in the world...and given that England just beat India 4-0 in the Test series and we are currently the world's leading side, pretty popular among 50 million Brits also...

and Pompey (Portsmouth) is a nice city too.....will be down there next week. Sad to see half the Royal Navy at anchor in the port being decomissioned or whatever the phrase is...

Actually, I think it's just far too boring. I might as well be watching golf.

The Poms suck at cricket. like everything else involving a ball...pastey white skinny, whingey poms can make up great games...they just need an Australian to show them how its played...
For those who dont know, there is one cricketing God...and his name is Bradman.

CAC - Do they have a form of "Australian Rules Cricket"??? Perhaps you are on to something here...
Can you picture a bunch of Aussies running around with bats, wailing on each other, while trying to stuff a cricket ball into the mouth of a goalkeeper? LOL

Ummm...we have "backyard cricket" - Played around the world but Aussies have their own particular rules...(over the fence is six and out - no first bowls etc etc...)
We do have Australian rules football...pretty similar to your description...but then so is friday night here on Mitchell street! (main drag). We are the broken jaw capital of the world here in the Territory...people always punching on...Surgeons even come here to study facial injuries...not something im particularly proud of...
Australian Rules Cricket: Hmmm...the kiwis would say that would include under arm bowling (fair call too). We could take a leaf out of the English cricketing book, if you cant beat them, aim for their heads! (bodyline series) Larwood is gay...not that theres anything wrong with that...just saying...Get off this 20/20 crap, bastardises the great game of cricket into a sham and betting wet dream...for the sub-continent...the average Aussies dislikes it...i think the Aussie form of the game should, and does include mountains of sledging...Australians are the best sledgers in the world (confirmed by the rest of the world)...we make people cry on the field...we only do it cause its fun!
And because poms cant take it...

Sure they came up with it...but WE showed them how to really play it, play it to its limits...the ins and outs...professionalised it...and showed the world how the game "could" be played...Every team since the eighties owes its current play to Australia of the 80s...most even recruited Australian coaches to make sure they learnt the finer points...
    And we're not the spawn of a B grade metal singer...we are "Aussies"...from God's land... : )

Oh my. What kind of impression are we sending to our newcomer now that we've stolen his thread?
Where's my sweetie CLEMENTINE when I need her calming influence? I am getting ever closer to satisfying my inner-Aussie sadistic urge by busting one guy's chops using another guy's head, knocking him into a wicket... OVER!

However, in Taiwan, we make an effort to be civilized in all affairs.
    Aussies should try it sometime...
if they can ever hear a word over the sounds of their group therapy primal grunting.

    Cheers, Mate! <whack!>
