Hi everybody, I've been lurking in the background for a while and thought, what the heck, create an account and see what happens...;-) Mussolini has made a nice list which I've tried to answer below: My Name: Kurgan; erm, well, just my favourite bad guy from the movies (Highlander if you don't know!) Age: 35; I've been interested in WW2 (history in general to be honest)since I'm a kid , but never delved really deeply into the matter. Around 16/17 I became interested though in tactics and strategy as well, and began to read some books on the subject (not WW2 specific). On and off I read more, but studies, work and other hobbies kept it to a minimum, until about a year ago I had a discussion with a colleague of mine who claimed that the Japanese had threatened the West Coast of the US during WW2. I told him I seriously doubted that claim, but began searching the net for proof of it, and well...this site gave me the answers I needed...:-D Origins: the Netherlands (Market Garden territory to be more specific) Specifics: I'm mostly interested in tactics and strategy employed by both sides during WW2; and lately (after another discussion with a different colleague) especially in the "Auftragstaktik" used by the Germans and how it influenced their performance. Hobbies: movies (Scifi, Horror, Thriller, Historic, Action), tabletop RPGs, surfing the net, computer games (First Person Shooters, Turn-based-Strategy games, Race games) and books (particularly on these subjects: psychology (decision-making), management (broadest sense), and warfare in general). Nothing specifically related to WW2. Other: other time periods I'm interested in are classical antiquity (ancient Greece and Rome) and the High Middle Ages (1000-1400). I'm no expert on any field, but I've found out that common sense goes a long way...ok, until you get beaten by the facts and their numbers...;-) Anyway, I know I'll learn a lot from this place!
Welcome Kurgan. Good intro. There's plenty of information available and helpful folks willing to answer questions. We're a friendly lot, so feel free to post often.
