    CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Harold J. "Pete" Janke, 88, a resident of Providence Place, and formerly of McCleary Drive and Wausau, Wis., died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at Chambersburg Hospital.


    Born July 3, 1920, in Schofield, Wis., he was the son of the late Henry G. and Josephine Boyack Janke.


    His wife, June E. Baken Janke, died Aug. 25, 2006.


    He retired from the former James River Corp. in Chambersburg as a mechanical foreman in the maintenance department.


    He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.


    He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Chambersburg.


    He was a member of BPO Elks Lodge 600 and Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, both of Chambersburg.


    He is survived by two daughters, Jill Miller of Hagerstown and Debra Jackson of Perryville, Md.; and one granddaughter, Emily V. Betz of North East, Md.


    He was preceded in death by an infant son, Daniel H. Janke; and two sisters.


    Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.


    In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Harrisburg, PA 17110.


    Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
