Hello fellow WWII geeks! Phil Novak here, fresh home from US Army Officer Candidate School (broke my leg during an obsacle course and sent home to recover) - Will be back after i heal to complete my training as an infantry officer (hopefully ranger!). Been reading about all this stuff for a while and i own quite an extensive library, mostly on german armor and the luftwaffe. My main area of expertese is most likely the eastern front as well as weaponry used on all fronts. look forward to chatting it up with you guys! Phil
Well, what ya waiting on, Phil, jump on in! My wife's first cousin broke his leg while training to be a parachutist-he overshot the landing area and landed on a truck. He was married 5 days later wearing a long leg splint and sitting in a wheel chair. After a short honeymoon, he had a rod put in his leg. As he could no longer jump, he transitioned over to Patriot missiles just in time to go the First Gulf War and shoot down some scuds. He is now a bird colonel in Gemany. I hope your leg heals quickly and thanks for serving.

Welcome, Phil. Since we're sharing broken-something stories.... One of my best friends broke his nose when he served with the screaming eagles in Nam -- but he wasn't parachuting anywhere.... He was on a detail to evacuate a village; they got the chopper loaded; he was in the doorway with his rifle, and the chopper was taking off; the chopper turned, but the villagers were not prepared for it, and they all lost their balance and ended up pushing my friend right out the door -- he landed face-down, on his rifle, in a rice paddy -- good thing he didn't land on dry land
Welcome, Phil. I know how it hard it can be when a leg is broken. I've seen it happen to my buddies when landing the wrong way during a jump. Anyway it's a nice excuse for a short rest, though.
