Hi Hucks, I just wanted to say that I finally saw your photos and documents in that other thread. I don't know how i missed seeing them? Great pics. I was wondering though if you could explain what some fo those docs were? Take care--C.
The pics referred to were on the Newest Militaria Pt 1 thread but seemed to of slipped in under the radar. they are the last three posts on this page... www.ww2f.com/militaria/23668-whats-your-newest-militaria-purchases-30.html The first document seen with the list of names at the bottom is a March order (dated 11th April 1942) instructing the group to take supplies from Orel to Bolchov for LIII AK. The names at the bottom show who drove what vehicle. They are being instructed to transport 500 15cm nebelwerfer rounds, 160 21cm morser rounds & 450 10cm K18 rounds. In the second post the map/chart was used by Lt Stehn when he was a Forward Observer for the battery for ordering fire plans. In the third post the newspaper (dated 28th March 1943) entitled Das Neueste was produced by the propaganda company of 2 Pz Army and is reporting on the battle around Orel. The large chart is for the Orel sector. The final document in the 3rd post entitled Soldaten Der Gruppe Weiss is a directive that was sent out by the CinC 2nd Army to all unit commanders to disseminate to all those men who they commanded prior to the Kursk Offensive in 1943. It is basically endeavouring to reinforce the moral attitude of officers & soldiers to lead and command - basically a battle cry for everyone to do their best. This photo album in question has numerous newspaper clippings and colour artwork as well as the 350+ photos. It is easily the best photo album in my collection.
Hi Hucks, you have some excellent research materials there. Just about 2 hrs ago, I FINALLY got some of my back-ordered pics and stuff in. These include 5 photos that had belonged to RKT Glatzert of the 426th I.R. 126th I.D. One pic shows him (pre RKT days) wearing his Waffenrock and is with two other Officers. Glatzert was CO of the 1st Btn of I.R. 426-and was a Captain. His CO-was RKT Hemmann-and i have one pic with the both of them in it. ANother pic I have was taken by Glatzert-of a knocked-out T-34-sitting in some trees. The last two of the "Glatzer Group" are pics taken by the Regiments photographer (2 of 4) that shows 426th IRs Offz in formation. I recieved another package but have not opened it yet-but I supect that it had about 30 photos in it including those 20 photos I rescued from permanent harm of being split apart) which were taken by G.J. A.R. 79s photographer-of various things as that Regiment made its way through the Caucasus Mountains in Southern Russia. GJ/AR 79 is part of the 1st GJ Div.and it's CO I THINK was either Julius "Papa" Ringel or possibly Eduard Dietl??? Will have to look it up to confirm. ANyway, some great shots out of this 20 grouping. I also managed to keep with this collection-a Regimentstagesbefehl for Sept 6 1942. Darn it though, it pisses me off to see important groupings like these split apart all for greedy profit >:-(( I guess I was very lucky though, that I had enough spare cash to save appx 12-25% of this grouping. I wish that I had had more at the time-because I could easily have saved approx 1/2 of this collection-or more.
For the advance into the Cacausus the cO of 1 GJ Div was Generalleutnant Lang (until December 1942) and Generalleutnant Walter Stettner Ritter von Grabenhofen (until October 1944). I do hate the splitting of groupings but unfortunately it is something that will always happen. I have a small boxset of 100 photos entitled Die Gebirgstruppe Im Osten and it was one of those sets that were available to soldiers to buy from the unit photographer, and I believe it concentrates on the 1st GJ Division. The photos run from 22nd June 1941 to 26th August 1942.
Thanks for doing the homework for me on the Div CO. Lang--I don't know why but his name definately rings a bell. I wonder if the unit photographer is one and the same as the guy who took the 20 pics I got? I can and I can't see them having a section of men running around whose main duty is that of being a photographer. I can see the one though. Does your boxed set have the mans name or rank mentioned anywhere? I'd love to add a possible "name" to these 20 pics as well as the man who kept the Regimentstagesbefehl that I also got ;-)) NOW I REMEMBER about Lang, I almost bought 2-3 originals of him from a German Photographs dealer I used to frequent. This dealer had several greta shots of him and it showed him wearing what must have been brand new-and tailor-made-M-43 cap, tunic and breeches. I wanted those pics for that purpose-as well as because he was standing next to another GJ General (I don't remember who he was?) as well was standing next to the cliff of some mountain he was on (quite possibly in the Caucausus or on Mount Elbrus?????? Anyway, I wonder if you ahve ever bought from the dealer im talking about? This guy has some of the most fantastic WWII German pics I have ever seen-though a bit pricey-but worth it. I bought three originals of Hermann Fegelein when he was CO of one of the Waffen SS Cavalry units. PS, if interested-ill give the name of the dealer-but only by PM.
There's no name anywhere on the boxset to identify the photographer. In fact there are no names anywhere, even on the contents page the Div CO is just identified as the Divisional Commander. But it does show the troops in the Caucasus. More then happy to have the details of the dealer you mentioned. It will be interesting to see what he has, thanks.
As the encircled commander at Bastogne said at least once to the Germans when hey asked him to surrender: "Aw Nuts." Ill send you the site info in a PM in a few moments. I think they recently chaged their addy but you should still be able to find their site using the old one. Take care--C. PS, I sent two photo cds and a stack of photos to Frank over on the WTG site. I know he has them in and just waiting for him to have the time to post them for me. So if you get the chance to visit-keep an eye out for Frank postings my pics ;-)) The nstack of pics are pics of militaria-mostly not mine-nut froma friend and another guy who is a friend of his. Anyway, I think in those pics include pics of a very nice pair of Grossdeutschland Div Panzer Oberleutnants boards I have-which I got from my friend who got them from the man who wore them ;-)) The man also was an RKT in the 1st G.D. Panzer Battalion. Oh and did I ever mention to you that I have a few great pics of the Berlin Watch Battalion-when it was under the command of Erwin Rommel ;-)) Those pics show him with Count Ciano and other dignataries.
