My name is Taras. I have long been interested in WWII - specifically Eastern Europe history. I am Ukrainian-American and am fiercly proud of it. I am a former US Marine. How/Why I came here - I followed a link from a different web site that was using false information posted here. I decided to join in order to provide a counter point and to have an exchange of ideas. It seemed more appropriate to provide accurate history to that area of the war years.
Hello Kozak, Welcome to the site. Thinking of your ancestery , in a WW2 context, what would you choose, Red Army , UPA , SS-Galicia or keep out of it altogether?
Welcome Taras, your input will be welcome. I always encourage different points of view, especially if they can correct potential mistakes.
Yes, we are always on the lookout for different opinions and points of view, provided in a non-confrontational way. So grab a cool one and tell us about it.
Thanks for the welcomes. To answer Wessex Wyvern question in a WW2 context: UPA or SS-Galicia it would depend the Year. Since UPA was around a lot longer I would have joined it at the earliest time possible. SS-Galicia would be in 44 when it was formed - I probably would have been one of the UPA that volunteered for the SS-Galicia to get more training then back to UPA (many did that) My biological grandfather and Uncle were in the UPA - one disappeared in a fight somewhere the other executed by Russians. Another Great-Uncle was in the SS-Galicia division. So I have ties to both. Other choices Given Red Army ....... never keep out of it altogether - then the communists would win
Cheers for the reply Kozak. If I remember rightly "Von Poop" on here visited Cannock Chase, England where many Ukrainians from SS-Galicia are buried. I think he posted some photos somewhere.
