On Board H.M.S. Nelson, members of the South African division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve with the Fleet are seen here loading the ship with 16-inch shells. South Africa had included a division of the R.N.V.R. among the defence forces of the Union for many years, and some of its officers and men served with the Grand Fleet during the 1914-1.8 war. In peacetime members of the S.A.R.N.V.R. served under the orders of the Commander-in-Chief at Simonstown.
