"... in spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart. I simply can’t build up my hopes on a foundation consisting of confusion, misery, and death. I see the world gradually being turned into a wilderness, I hear the ever approaching thunder, which will destroy us too, I can feel the sufferings of millions and yet, if I look up into the heavens, I think that it will all come right, that this cruelty too will end, and that peace and tranquillity will return again." - Anne Frank

I saw a truly haunting film on cable one afternoon. It was about a Jewish housewife who went shopping, and was picked up in a roundup by the SS. Thrown into a cell, she is transfered to a death train. Held in a barn, she is raped by the Jewish occupants...this galvanizes her into action, and she simply opens the barn door, to the amazement of the SS, (Who exclaim "WHAT are you DOING you J@# B*&%$!!)...Walking towards the nearest officer, she somewhat patiently and sweetly claims to have left her Kenkarte back at her flat. The Officer is so amazed he puts her on a civilian train, back to her town, where she gets out and goes home, arriving back on the same day, just as though she spent the day shopping... I forget the name, but it's a compelling film, leaving you amazed from start to finish... I believe the film is American, (principle actress is), and I wish I could remember it's name....worth a look.
I found this documentary about the holocaust which is quite amazing.. true story of a group of elementary students from a small town in Tennessee in late 1990's . They were learning about the holocaust.. but the students had a hard time imagining what 6 million jews killed was like, they could not comprehend what 6 million was.. So they created a project called "the paperclip project"... they were to find 6 million paperclips each one to represent a life lost in the holocaust. they sent letters all around the world, contacted holocaust survivors, presidents, journalists, actors and asked for paperclips. Over 6 Million of paperclips from all around the world poured back to the students including thousands of letters! Even holocaust survivors sent letters back and visited the students, telling their story. A group of students in Germany sent a suitcase back to tennesses with paperclips each one tagged with letters asking Anne Frank for forgivness. I looked all around the web and I found the video of the documentary online.. quite amazing group of kids. take a look, Paper Clips - Watch the Documentary Film for Free | Watch Free Documentaries Online | SnagFilms

the devil's arithmetic 1999 great movie especially for younger people. it's about a present day teenager dissasociated with her culture and her jewish faith. One day she black's out at passover dinner and wakes up back in time to Poland during the holocaust. She relives what her family went through . It's hard to explain, but the story line is actually quite good.. the movie is available online in parts on YouTube for anyone interested. YouTube - The Devil's Arithmetic part1
