... that this peace agreement with Israel would work, but I can't see it happening. These Palestinians are really hardcore about getting there home back, so i dont see that changing.

I agree with you mate, we need peace but I doubt it will happen any time soon. Guys, if you are gonna post in reply to this please try not to get overly political etc, we all know what happened last time.

I'll make this brief as I know full well of what Stefan states......

there will never be full peace in the mid-east until.......

anyway the nations involved and there are many so don't fool yoursleves thinking that it is just the Philistines/Israel involvement.

I'll discuss this more in private if one wishes but not here. Understand that this is a WW 2 forum and several years ago as with the Quiz part IV problems, statements about personal religious belief's are not tolerated......don't even get me started guys ;)

I will keep it short and sweet.
I know that the tension between Israel and Palestien is deep-seeded, but if that could be put aside, to just ease this bloodshed-it would be so much easier.
That is a mighty big ask though...

Agreed on all sentiments already voiced.

An ugly, difficult situation that will hopefully be resolved someday... VERY hopefully.

Never like to see innocent people being killed, whatever side they're on.

It would be nice if they can finally have peace but unfortunately there are radicals on both sides that will never allow it to happen. Look at Sadat and Rabin, both killed because they tried to make peace.

The good people in the middle are always the ones who suffer.

It would be nice to see an end to violence through political settlement, as was the case in Northern Ireland, but I suspect that religious zeal on both sides will make this impossible.

Ok thanks guys. Just a question related to this but, doesn't it seem as though this is kinda like a child's game? I mean, the Israels and Palestinians are like "You hit me, so Im gonna hit you". Does this sound a bit right?

yes but with incredibly large sticks !........and what is the point... ? When a bus blows sky high or a market square is blown away with civilians with all ages, the Isrealies will of course retaliate...... and the Philistines come back with another suicide attempt. Nothing new, going on for thousands of years. All we are going to see in the future is bigger bombs and more death from the sky.

I saw it in 1980 and the only smiles I saw from both sides in Jerusalem and the out lying villages was when some-one was trying to sell me something. Just don't see much hope for either side right now.

We all wish peace. But those are two peoples that are never going to stop fighting because of territory and religion. And the actual lessons of both their religions are always misinterpretated and both sides claim: "Eye per eye, tooth per tooth..." And they are going blind, as Mahatma Gandhi said. It is in the very nature of human kind that when the Palestinians get a country of their own they are not going to be happy with it. Why? Because they had a country of their own and it was taken away... there's no doubt why they are annoyed. And of course that Israelis also want the whole region for them... It is stupid that two peoples who hate each other, with opposite religions are set in that little piece of land... The Arabs have to have a good life-standard and terrorism will cease and the Isralis must learn to share and live along their muslim brothers. History didn't teach them much. Jews were the chased ones for 5.000 years and they have been the chasers the last 50 years... That's a major and stupid contradiction. The Arabs as well did not learn of the old muslim world of the Middle Ages in which they were the most well-brought, the most tolerant and spiritual of the peoples...

I agree General, but if that is true than why dont they just go ahead and do this? Is it the people are against it or is it that these people just LIKE all this bloodshed? Personally, i dont care nemore b/c its like the same thing everyday. Oh, another bombing in the Middle East. It's old news.

I think we shouldn't come to the extreme of being indifferent to what happens there. But we can't do much. It is up to them. If it was the rest of the world's problems I think that the UN should intervine, disarm Israel and Palestine and remain there to keep both sides from attacking each other. But again, that's too extreme. [IMG]

As Fried pointed out this has been going on for thousands of years and the only thing that has changed is the weapons used to prove someones point of view. Palestine was created as a huge state by the Roman conquerors.......and the title stayed put with the British as a governing body before and during WW 1. The guerilla's at the time were the Jews who of course wanted Britain to leave, and the Jewish fighters themselves were labeled as terrorists. The Palestinians as everyone in the modern day world call them is quite an incorrect term as in the days of the Roman legions everyone of the state/countryside of Palestine included the people of Israel as well as the Philistines and any other 'foreign' folk. The people of Israel had their own land and it was chosen for them and this is what they are fighting for now as the Philisitines or the "sea-faring" peoples came by boat as invaders fighting the people of Israel for control of the west bank/Gaza. These people orgininated from the island of Crete and Sicily, with some historians claiming they evolved from the Greecian islands // and wanted to move to larger area for expansion.....thier history, what there is of it can be traced in the bible and other ancient texts as well as a rather deep but excellent work by R.A.S. Macalister "The Philistines, their history and civilization" among many others.....
