One of my dreams is to someday visit England, especially London. Given my interests, the highest priority place for me to visit is the renowned Imperial War Museum. I'm hoping that some of my British frioends in the forum can give me some info as to what all is actually on display there. I know that there is probably a web site, but I prefer to get a visitor's eye view. Anything you can tell me will be appreciated. :)

I have been there, but years & years ago. All I can really remember is the skeleton of Wellington's horse...

when i lived in london i visited the imperial war museum only once ( not bad in 7years!) that was in 1994 (spent most of my time drinking, playin football and chasing women, the rest i just wasted).

i went with my mate because it was raining and had nothin to do, tell u what it was a fanatsic day out, we neva got round the whole place in 8hrs there was plenty of interactive displays etc like the recreated world war 1 trench with all the smells and sounds of the time and the london air raid shelter that shook and moved when simulated bombs fell.

that was over 10 years ago now and i suspect others will tell you it has probably got even better since then. its definetly a place i would recommend anyone who visits london to go and see even if u got no interest in history or warfare!

also got lots of displays of aeroplanes tanks etc but also plenty of displays of warfare and artifacts throughout the ages. uniforms diaries of real people letters etc, they also do interactive displays of individual campaigns and battles with films etc and running commentary its all good.

in fact now i think about next time im in london must put it on my 2 do list!

Duxford is a branch of the Imperial War Museum as well I believe. Well worth a visit. Can´t be much more than a couple of hours from London by train, or what ?

If you´re going to visit Duxford, try to be there the weekend they host the Flying Legends Airshow. It´s by far the best airshow I´ve ever seen.

The Royal armoury museum in Leeds is one of the best museums I have ever been in. It was only opened a few years ago so has the benefit of being purpose built. There is that many live demonstrations (up to and including guys in full armour belting each other with swords) that you can spend the whole day there and not actually see many exhibits
