http://www.festival-cannes.fr/films/fiche_film.php?langue=6002&id_film=4352781 On a recent trip to Paris I saw a lot about this film, it looks excellent, excellent actors (esp Naceri and Debouze), has had good reviews. Will have to wait and pick it up on DVD. Any French memebers here seen this?
It's nice as an entertainement, however debatable on a historical aspect. I do believe it is a useful reminder for all that colonial troops have also contibuted to the the Liberation of France. However I don't agree with some of the figures. For instance the definition of Colonial troops is not the same for eveybody and included the Europeans from North Africa. I also believe this film is somewhat romanced and the role of colonial troops overestimated. Yet, if you see it as a militant film it is a success. One major step is that from now on all veteran pensions will be the same for all, from France to indochina (Vietnam ), as well as Africa. Finally I have as much respect for all veterans no matter where they came from.
