I would just ike to know how common the Iron Cross was in the Wermacht?

By this I mean what percentage of officers recieved one. Most of the top German commanders seem to have one but, I see very few pictures of enlisted men and company grade officers with Iron Crosses.

    Other questions are,
Was it common amongst enlisted men to recieve a Iron Cross?
How frequently was the Iron Cross awarded?
Was it only given to combat troops?

    Thanks,
    Reddog

I'm not sure about the percentage or the distribution of Iron Crosses between officers, generals and enlisted men… but I know that in WWII some 3,5 million Iron Crosses II Class and 500.000 Iron Crosses I Class were awarded, as well as some 25.000 German Crosses and 7.500 Knight's Crosses.

As a comparisson, in WWI there were 3 million Iron Crosses II Class, 450.000 Iron Crosses I Class and some 1.800 'Pour le Mérite' awarded.
