To start off i would like to offer my sympathy too all the families and friends who lost some one on flight MH17. Its a tragedy that should never occurred nor should any one have gone through. That said, Reading the latest news reports on the net here apparently Australians are 'nuts'. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-07-26/australia-seeks-to-secure-mh17-remains-as-abbott-deploys-police.html http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-07-25/australia-risks-tension-with-ukraine-rebels-sending-armed-police.html Personally I take us being nuts as a complement, What do others think? Quick question, Does any one have anything to back up Russian claims that the Ukrainians had a Buk missile launched in the area?
Aussie my self and to be honest I disagree. It's a war zone in which we are unlikely to get guaranteed security/safety so do we send in unarmed police and troops and take a chance or do we prepare for the worst and hope for the best. That said I also would have been all for taking every one of our transport aircraft, Loading them to the brink and flying over their and taking control of the site by force if needed.... May have started more trouble but Russia needs to learn they can't run around freely destabilizing other nations.
Nuts because of the legal ramifications...soldiers...in a war zone...so what if the rebels decided to test us? What then...? We could be wiped out to a man, and in a war zone...even one Aussie death would spark a sh$t fight. As a peaceful duty, we must enforce the law not the war. Policemen would send the message that's this is a law thing and that we are not here to fight...AFP are able to look after themselves anyway
True the AFP could look after them selves, Though I dont think they have the equipment to handle artillery, mortars, armored vehicles etc etc so a small ADF not necessarily located at the site but within close range as a ready response force wouldn't go a miss.
I think a sense of proportion should kept here ; the statement of the Dutch Prime Minister seems realistic in what is a very dangerous and unstable situation. And as for Australians being 'nuts' - I doubt that a telephone comment from a 'Senior Program Manager....of the German Marshall Fund Of The US in Berlin' can be taken as indicative of World opinion. The whole thing has been a truly awful incident and I can't even begin to imagine the mental anguish of the relatives of those aboard the aircraft.
Sending armed inspectors to the crash site isn't the wisest thing to do and why send Aussies to bail? The Pro-Russians must leave, then the place will be secured and people will be able to do their job not . I wouldn't want to go to this place with a bunch of drunken rebels switching form one shot of alcohol to a shot of a gun. Fingers crossed for the Aussies though, I suppose they don't have the choice as politicians pull the ropes.
