Hey, i've been trying to find a forum that'll let me post first day, and i finally did. Anyway, i have this "supposedly" german helmet i got from my grandfather. And i does NOT look like a traditional Stahlhelm. To me, it looks like a Spanish transition, but i have no idea.
I think it is a Spanish one too , have a similar one with the metal bridge up front for mounting an emblem . I was told it was from the Spanish falangists and the emblem worn on these was like this one : google a bit further and found something interesting here : http://www.nyc-techwriters.com/militaria/spanish_helmets.htm Both are model 42 helmets , the one on the right is original-Z model , the ones we seem to have are updated interiors .. Spanish Model 1942 "Modelo Z" Steel Helmet The Spanish adopted a German styled helmet, called the Modelo Z in 1942. This helmet was German in style but only 1mm thick with an unrolled edge. It featured a three-pad liner that was attached by seven bolts. Despite rumors to the contrary these helmets were never produced in Germany or on German machinery. Spanish Model 1942/79 Steel Helmet The liner was updated in 1975 and put into widespread use in 1979. This helmet remained in use as Spain joined NATO in the 1980s.
Is it rare? And if not, is it worth more than the 30 bucks he paid for it? -------------------------- DANKE Heinrich!!!!!!!! I appreciate it!
m42-79 modelo, because it is fitted with 79 liner, rare? no! more than $30? poss! but a few dollars at most, and condition too counts....ray..
Mine was given to me by a friend ..30$ isnt too bad in the US considering it is an old helmet with some history in it , but theyre not rare ..its just rare to find yours sofar away from Spain ..
often seen on ebay, and stated ww2 german helmet, just because it looks like one, to the uninitiated that is...
IMA used to sell these and they were around $40.00 when they had them in stock. Best Regards, fischer
