My new booklet, Thunder in Its Courses: Essays on the Battlecruiser, has just been released. The print version is available on the right side of the Atlantic; it should get to the UK soon, but in the meantime, Kindle is there already. The subtitle is self-explanatory, but here's the promotional blurb to further explain: Few subjects in naval history have elicited as much romance and disdain as the battlecruiser. And few subjects have gone so grossly misunderstood. Fundamental errors regarding the battlecruiser's origins and the technology of the times continue to distort hindsight, obscuring the historical context of these powerful, majestic ships. Thunder in Its Courses clears away the misconceptions, with essays establishing the basic facts of the capital-ship cruiser as well as thorny issues regarding individual designs. Richard Worth writes for the Warship and Warship International journals. His book titles include In the Shadow of the Battleship, Raising the Red Banner (with Vladimir Yakubov), On Seas Contested (edited with Vincent P. O'Hara and W. David Dickson), and Fleets of World War II.
Here's Amazon US: Amazon.com: Thunder in its Courses: Essays on the Battlecruiser (9781608881017): Richard Worth: Books But of course, you can by it from whichever seller you prefer!
They don't have the "Look Inside" function yet, so here's a table of contents: Misunderstood: The Battlecruiser’s Place in History The First Battlecruiser HMS Courageous—What the Heck? Without Armor Nonsense: Administration as the Father of Flaws Who Killed the Battlecruiser? The First Shall Be Last: Kongo in the Japanese Design Process The Mightiest Might-Have-Been
A collection of essays of the "battlecruiser" concept at different moments looks great, IMO I will be more fun to read about than the differences between a Lion a Tiger and a Kongo. BTW I loved Raising the red banner but found the format of In the shadow of the battleship a bit too restrictive to do justice to the subject.
Tiornu, I went out and got the Kindle version of "Thunder in It's Courses" the day you first posted this. I really enjoyed the read. In fact, I liked it enough that not long after I finished it, I went and got your, "In the Shadow of the Battleship" and read it. Right now I'm re-reading "Shattered Sword", I had a HB copy but couldn't find it when I decided I wanted to read it, so I re-purchased it on Kindle. I might just check out some more of your books when I get done. For anyone interested in the subject, I recommend both of these titles by Mr. Worth.
