Hello there!! Everyone calls me Stewy and I'm 31 years old, dad and grandparents were in the service and i love learning anything i can about what they did since i lost them at a young age, i never got to talk to them about what they did... I also have a collection of German Lugers and love pretty much and gun of the period!!! Glad to be aboard!!!!

I'm excited to start, hopefully but not sure if i can get any info on my grandpas service during WW2(pacific theater) Of course, and not the first time that you have heard this, the records went up in flames!!! Ive got bits and pieces but hopefully someone here can give me some insight!!

He was in the Amry Air Force.

Air Transport Command, component AUS(not sure what the AUS is)

I have his medal info from his original discharge papers but can't directly find out how he got them?? Like his one bronze star, just have the story grandma told me.

Another bit of info, he always talked about how a plane showed up one day and a bunch of soldier surrounded it so no one could see what was going on. later he found out it was the First atom bomb being assembled and/or dropped off before it got shipped to the Enola Gay... might ask mom about this story again.....Saipan maybe he was stationed??!!

I don't have unit number or anything, not sure if its even possible do dig anything up that extensive, like the years he was actually on a certain island....

    Was an Airplane mechanic!!!!!

Thanks everyone who looks and replies!!! any info is more than i have

    Welcome.

Army of the United States, I believe contemporaneously it applied to those that were drafted during wartime.

Welcome. You might find this link to be of interest. It's part of what one of our members contributed.

If you could provide your grandfather's name and what medals he was entitle to, it would help. It would also be good if you could post his discharge documents. We have members who can help you decode what is there.

    Welcome to the Forum, Stewy.

I've noticed when I have tried to post links to HyperWar, it makes the link an "https:" and then the link doesn't work for me. If I edit out the "s", then it works. I only seem to have this problem with HyperWar. Kinda odd.
