Hey everybody, names Ron and I found about y’all by accident. I used to go to WW2Gyrene.org quite a bit, a really good site with a whole lot of photos and all kinds of stuff. I just gradually quit going because I never could get a response from anybody. I don’t know if the owner just got too busy to mess with it anymore, got sick or who knows? Yesterday I tried it again and all I saw was the post from Otto talking about it, so I followed that over here. Really am happy to see y’all, I have been very interested with WW2 shoot I guess since the third grade! That was the first year we got to go to the school library. I stumbled on a book about the war, don’t remember what book, but i’ve been studying it every since and i’m 62.

It really does my heart to find people interested in it, i’ll get all excited about something, start telling my wife about it and she says something like why are you telling? I don’t care. Blows me plum away, and her dad turned 17 on New Guinea, fought on Korea, and fought in the first battle in the Ia Drang valley, he was a medic in Vietnam, and was killed when he came home on leave. Sure would have loved to have met him. I did join the Marines, was on a plane headed to San Diego on my 19th Birthday. Vietnam was already over so I goofed off a year before I signed up. Well that’s about it, thanks for the invite. Oh I don’t have any special knowledge or anything like that, but I always have kinda leaned towards the Pacific and the Marines and to a lesser extent the Navy. I am reading a very good book now about both in the battle for Guadalcanal, Neptune’s Inferno.

Thanks y’all, forgot to say I am in Mt. Home Ar. Moved here around 16 years ago because I got hooked on fly-fishing and we have two of the best trout rivers in the world here, or at least in Arkansas. Grew up about 3 hours south west of here in a little bitty town. But before we moved here I lived in east Texas for 21 years, so I have a very screwed up accent. My own kids call me boomhauer sometimes.

curious- when my latest incarnation signed up, had to answer a skill testing question. if recalling- when did world war 2 end (does that sound right to old rogues?)
did you have to hurdle questions to become a member?

Welcome Ron, from the Pacific Northwest. We have some pretty good fishing here too, but can't come close to the picture CAC posted (unless I can include salmon).
Lots of knowledgeable people here-and we have Poppy who keeps things interesting.

No I am not a robot, haven’t been online a whole lot, wife had a mild heart attack couple of weeks ago, she is fine, they did balloon surgery and put in a splint, but it has kept me pretty busy.

Heart attacks can be a bit disruptive of one's schedule. Ask Boss Lady, she has her phone dialed to 9-1- routinely.
