Hey everybody, names Ron and I found about y’all by accident. I used to go to WW2Gyrene.org quite a bit, a really good site with a whole lot of photos and all kinds of stuff. I just gradually quit going because I never could get a response from anybody. I don’t know if the owner just got too busy to mess with it anymore, got sick or who knows? Yesterday I tried it again and all I saw was the post from Otto talking about it, so I followed that over here. Really am happy to see y’all, I have been very interested with WW2 shoot I guess since the third grade! That was the first year we got to go to the school library. I stumbled on a book about the war, don’t remember what book, but i’ve been studying it every since and i’m 62. It really does my heart to find people interested in it, i’ll get all excited about something, start telling my wife about it and she says something like why are you telling? I don’t care. Blows me plum away, and her dad turned 17 on New Guinea, fought on Korea, and fought in the first battle in the Ia Drang valley, he was a medic in Vietnam, and was killed when he came home on leave. Sure would have loved to have met him. I did join the Marines, was on a plane headed to San Diego on my 19th Birthday. Vietnam was already over so I goofed off a year before I signed up. Well that’s about it, thanks for the invite. Oh I don’t have any special knowledge or anything like that, but I always have kinda leaned towards the Pacific and the Marines and to a lesser extent the Navy. I am reading a very good book now about both in the battle for Guadalcanal, Neptune’s Inferno.
